Wedding Story
There are so many reasons to love today’s DIY wedding at the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, TX. The venue is a nod to the former first lady, and helps to protect some of North America’s wildflowers and native plant species. Natural outdoor beauty, water features, and meadows are a serene backdrop for your wedding day. The colors were inspired by lemons and limes, which played a role throughout the wedding.
The gorgeous photography is by Katherine O’Brien.
The flowers were bought in bulk and arranged the day before the wedding. Heather’s sister made the bouquets and boutonnieres.
Heather found a pair of green satin shoes and dyed her petticoat yellow to go along with the color scheme.
For favors, Heather and Russell provided vintage handkerchiefs for their guests’ tears of joy, and paper parasols to keep them cool.
Russell wore a white tux and black bow tie, inspired by this photo of his parent’s wedding. Sweet!
There was no shortage of drinks – jugs full of lemonade, mason jars filled with lime water, and bottles of Mexican cokes, Topo Chicos, and Dr. Peppers in galvanized tubs. Of course, we love the striped paper straws!
The dessert table is our favorite part, it looks totally yummy! Inspired by a country bake sale, Heather and Russell had their favorite cupcake bakery make six different cakes. Hand stamped labels marked the cakes with intriguing names like the James Brown, Marilyn Monroe, Black and Tan, & Strawberry Love!
What a sweet wedding! Thanks to Katherine for sharing it with us. See more photos on her blog here.
