Wedding Story
Today’s vintage wedding at Franciscan Gardens is simply amazing. The floral arrangements include so many of our favorites – succulents, scabiosa pods, and billy balls. Michelle’s headpiece is gorgeous, and the cakes – you MUST see the cakes. They are crazy!
Thanks to Jagger Photography for sharing this stunner with us, and thanks to Michelle for taking the time to write us her favorite memories and advice despite being super busy with starting a new job!
Wedding at Franciscan Gardens
Comments from the bride: “We wanted our wedding to emulate who we are. As a little girl, I knew I always wanted an outdoor, summer garden wedding and that’s exactly what we did! I love the sunshine and warm weather so when it came to choosing my colors, I didn’t think twice about choosing lemon yellow because it always instantly makes me smile.”
“We love both modern and vintage, so it was creating a balance of both those elements we used to incorporate into our special day. We wanted our wedding to be simple & fresh, but also intimate & timeless. It was important to us our guests felt like they are a huge part of who we are, and wanted them to enjoy celebrating such a special day with us. Most of our wedding was DIY, so I had fun looking on Etsy & wedding blogs for some ideas and then made them personal to us. I had a lot of ideas of things I definitely wanted to do, so with a lot of time and planning we were completely able to make the day ours. It was really fun to be so involved in every element we chose to share with our guests.”
What are a few of the best moments of your Wedding Day?
“I’ll never forget the look on Nick’s face when I saw him for the first time. As I was approaching him, his eyes welled up with tears & I’ve never seen him so emotional. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the place! It seemed as if it was just the two of us, and felt like the luckiest girl in the world I get to spend the rest of my life with my soul mate. Another great moment was shortly thereafter, before our vows Nick confessed to me he forgot his tux and almost got married in a Star Wars tee shirt! He was so busy grabbing some things I needed from our house, he forgot to grab his tux! He always puts me first. Fortunately, a family friend saved the day and brought his tux the same time the ceremony was supposed to start, and I had no idea!”
“There are so many ideas for weddings it’s easy to become overwhelmed when deciding what details you want to feature at your wedding. Every single element was something we chose because we absolutely loved it, and captured who Nick and I are as a couple. I have an obsession with lanterns,I love the warmth & ambiance they provide so I insisted on having various paper lanterns hung underneath the pergola where we featured our cake. That being said, our cake was also a focal point for us; we had our amazingly talented friend help us come up with our concept for our cake & it was truly a work of art! (not to mention the yummy flavors: raspberry lemonade & chocolate peanut butter). Another favorite detail of ours were the make your own s’more favors. It was special to us because Nick proposed to me by putting my ring in a s’more after breakfast one morning (notice the chocolate loving trend here?). The favors came in handy for the bridal party that night because hotel they were staying at had a fire pit, perfect for roasting those mallows!”
Bride’s advice for those planning a wedding
“It’s really easy to become overwhelmed with all the information and products available for weddings today. Once you have a reasonable budget, adhere to it and you’ll find an (often creative) way to incorporate some of the details you want for your wedding without the high price. When planning a wedding, it’s just as important to edit some of your details; less is more and always think about the overall aesthetic. It’s easy to have a lot of inspiration, but not everything can be incorporated into your day. Instead, find a common style in your inspiration & stick to it. We were able to have a wedding that was totally us while doing most things ourselves. Most importantly, enjoy the day! It goes by in a whirlwind, take a moment with your groom and soak up the experience! Not everything will go as exactly as you planned, but make the most of it and remember the day is about you two, and celebrating with the ones you love.”
