Styled Shoot Story
Our love affair with French themes continues with today’s Parisian inspired engagement shoot. No wonder – Valentine’s Day is tomorrow and amour is in the air! Keep reading or scroll down to see the pics for this perfect romantic styled engagement shoot that fits this weeks theme to a tee.
Comments from the photographer: “When our team of vendors set out to create a styled shoot, we knew we wanted a super sweet and romantic theme, since Valentines Day is right around the corner. Originally, we planned on a shoot in the snow. However, with the California drought still in effect, most of the snow melted away quickly. A week before our scheduled shoot our team discussed our options: cancel the event, or create a brand new look in record time… we decided on the latter!
“Fortunate for us, we live in an adorable town with elements of European influence in the architecture, so we played off of the beauty around us. Our baker, Felicia Yoder (who works for Broad Street Bistro in Nevada City), asked permission to use the cafe for our location, which was the perfect fit for our vision. We are also big fans of the local ice cream shoppe, Treats, which has an adorable aesthetic and lots of fun details, so we planned on using that location.
“Erica Henderson (from Tin Roof Farmhouse rentals) pulled items from her collection that were feminine, soft, romantic and Parisian-inspired, including her own cafe table and chairs, china sets, cake platters, and vintage books. She then created a table scene and separate vignette backdrop, which included old door frames, and hanging vases with pink tulips. Together, the scene felt sweet and unique.
“We are thrilled with the end result, and hope it gives couples everywhere some inspiration to create a romantic escape for a one-of-a-kind engagement session!”
“For our model’s style, Angela Nunnink’s (of Hair and Makeup by Angela) created a delicate updo that was inspired by a French Twist. She applied makeup to look natural and girly, with soft pink blush and lips.”
“The day of the shoot, I got an email from a local friend who owns a beautiful vintage car, called a Riley Elf. When she heard we were doing a styled shoot, she offered to use her car, but she only had a 10 minute window for us to shoot. I decided to go for it! We parked the car in front of Treats, and shot a sequence of photos that turned out to be my favorite part of day. It was meant to be, and tied in so perfectly with our theme!”
Felicia Yoder (our baker) made a few different sweets that were equally beautiful as they were delicious! Her two “Tiny Cakes” were a hit; she decorated her chocolate cake to resemble rose petals layered around it’s base. The white cake was simple yet gorgeous– we added a tulip for a romantic touch, and a “Be Mine” tag to the top to complete the look. Felicia also made fruit tarts, and petite fours for a perfect French touch.
