Engagement Announcement FAQ
There are plenty of reasons to announce your engagement when you don’t have a wedding date set yet!
First, if you’re excited and want to scream it from the rooftops, you should! Second, suppose you’re planning on a long engagement? In that case, an announcement is a good way to let everyone know that the wedding is coming up without committing to a date yet.
Also, an engagement announcement sends the message to your family, friends, and everyone else that you’ve got a lot of planning just around the corner, and you may need some help.
Like an upcoming engagement party, for instance! It’s common for a close friend or family member to step up and host the couple’s engagement party. An announcement puts everyone in the frame of mind to prepare.
Speaking of engagement parties, seeing as that’s next and we’re ever-so-helpful, we have some great resources for you for engagement party invitation inspiration and etiquette here
and here. Enjoy.
Of course not! You don’t have to announce your engagement at all. Or if you do, but want to keep it low-key, hit up friends on social media to let them know.
But, as we said above, announcing your engagement has its advantages. Besides, it’s a great excuse for the happy couple to take a bunch of engagement photos!
This one is trickier. Back in the day, engagements were announced in newspapers courtesy of the parents of the bride. Now – not so much.
Like the newspaper method, many couples opt to leave the task of sending out engagement announcements to the bride’s parents. That’s nice, but keep in mind that they’re choosing who gets one and who doesn’t.
One hard and fast rule: always let your closest family and friends know first, preferably in person, by phone, text, email, whatever. News travels fast these days, and your tribe may not be pleased to learn about the big news from a card, no matter how beautiful it is.
So after that, engagement cards usually go to people you’re planning to invite to the wedding. Still, in some instances, it might be appropriate to send them out to other loved ones who’d like to hear the exciting news but are likely unable to attend.
It’s always prudent to talk to your partner and decide together who you’d like to send them to.
Biggest Congrats!
If you’re part of a newly engaged couple, we couldn’t be happier for you! It’s always lovely to hear that two more people in the world have decided to make a go of this thing we call happily ever after.
Hopefully, we’ve helped you decide which engagement announcement cards you want to send out and provided some helpful info about going about it. Exciting times are ahead; good luck and enjoy!
