Wedding Story
Farewell Downton Abbey Shoot (From the Photographer)
“In honor of the series finale of Downton Abbey – a show beloved by many – we wanted to showcase the regal, classic, and vintage highlights of the era, with an American twist. We toned down the lavish and added a bit of American prohibition to our styled shoot – bringing the 1920’s back to Raleigh, NC.
“Being historically accurate while inserting pops of modern flair, we wanted to highlight the romantic side of this era and bring together vendors who truly appreciate the era while casting a vision for brides who might share love for the theme enough to style their wedding after it.
“Although not set in a regal estate, the venue is a woodland park, complete with stone walls, ravines and bridges, arbors, a small vineyard and overall a romantic atmosphere. Elements like vintage models of the radio and record player, lace runners, golden candlesticks and classical novels that graced the tables helped to set the tone of the late 1920s.”
“Our models sported two different looks that you would see during the 20s — our bride in white is classic and elegant while our bridesmaid represents the fun, flirty flapper girl style. The wedding dress designer custom-designed the wedding dress for the shoot, giving it a long train and veil resembling that of Lady Mary Crowley’s wedding attire. However, the simple style of the gown with cap sleeves brought on a more rustic American flare.
“The bridesmaid gown, part of Lauren Conrad’s 2016 Runway Collection paired with a bird cage hair piece finished off the look with a modern twist. There is also a lot of gold accents — jewelry, table settings, lettering on the stationary, and other accoutrements. We felt that this detail brings a rich, vintage touch to the scenes. Our hope is that this American translation of the romantic setting of Downton Abbey enchants and offers inspiration to couples this wedding season.”
