Wedding Story
Photographer’s Comments: “Leon & Stephanie went through many hurdles to get to their wedding day. They delayed a year due to Leon being deployed. Then as their big day approached so did Hurricane Harvey! “Finally, 28 days later they were married. Not everything happened as planned, even on the wedding day. But they have a memorable story, the day turned out gorgeous, and all their loved ones were there to share in their joy!”
Bridal Q & A
Q: Tell us about your wedding! “The inspiration behind my day mainly came from Pinterest inspiration pictures, I really loved the clean all white with greenery look. My favorite color pallets for my wedding was gold, pinks and white, so thats what it revolved around. “I LOVE candles and sparkly lights in the dark so I knew I had to incorporate candles to give it that romantic glow feel I love. I didn’t know what to name this decor theme but I was going for more of a romantic/boho theme. “I did incorporate cultural religious traditions at the ceremony. Our ceremony was held at a catholic church, during the ceremony we chose Padrinos de arras [lucky coins sponsors] which symbolizes the groom’s commitment to supporting the bride and also represent Christ and his apostles. The bride’s acceptance of the arras represents her unconditional confidence and trust in the groom and her vows to be a good administrator of the family’s wealth. “We also had Padrinos de los lazos [tie the knot sponsors], a double rosary with a single cross that would essentially unite the couple in prayer and share the single leadership of Christ for their marriage. We also left flowers for the Virgin Mary after the ceremony in hopes that she will bless the marriage.” Q: Let’s talk wedding decor “For the ceremony I didn’t do much, the church is beautiful as it is so we only added a basket of flowers at the podium. At the reception I just wanted a very romantic effortless look, I simply told my decorator and florist that I wanted loose greenery Eucalyptus everywhere and candles. I had been seeing more and more of the geometric shapes in stores and I knew instantly I wanted these geometric shaped vases, in gold, to be placed as the centerpieces for the guest tables…they added to that boho vibe I wanted to incorporate. “The only thing that was DIY was two gold picture frames on each side of the chimney. They actually belong to my parents, they held my parents wedding pictures from 25 years ago :) I took out the pictures and glass and left the frame open and just tic tacked string and clipped Leon and I’s engagement pictures on the string. “The reception was so beautiful on its own that it really didn’t need much decor.” Q: What were the florals like in your wedding? “I love flowers! I feel like the flowers were what would bring life to the wedding and for that reason we didn’t have a budget for flowers. I knew from the beginning my bouquet would have pink flowers and unfortunately, my favorite flowers, peonies were not in season. “My second favorite flowers are garden roses. There are sooo many to choose from, but I fell in love with the Carey garden roses. They had to be ordered from David Austin Roses in England. “As for the rest of the bouquet, I just asked for eucalyptus and very messy crescent shape to it. My florist added in whatever else she thought would look good. “My bridesmaids had small bouquet with eucalyptus and a few small pastel roses. I really wanted my bouquet to stand out more, but have their bouquets still look very pretty and noticeable despite their size. It all looked beautiful.” Q: Did you personalize the day in any way? “We didn’t have any personalization at our wedding. Some of my favorite parts were the ceramony, taking pictures with our wedding party, definitely the toast, and dancing the night away after everything was done and nothing was left to stress about.” Q: Let’s talk fashion “I knew that I wanted lace on my dress so I started with that, I also knew I wanted a bohemian look to it so long sleeves was the next detail. With those two in mind I went to a small bridal bouquet in downtown Angeton. They were actually having a trunk show for Stella York that day which had a dress with the exact features I was looking for. “The moment I tried it on I knew it was it. It was lace, had long sleeve and a beautiful open back…and since it was from the trunk show, it was on sale. “So I found my dress at the first wedding shop I visited and the first dress I tried on. What more can a girl ask for right? “As for Leon he found his suite at SuitMart in Wilmington, North Carolina. He wasn’t to hard to pick a suit the only trouble we had for that was picking a shade of grey. We both like cognac so we also looked for shoes and suspenders in that color. Suspenders was more my idea but he liked it old time look to it. We decided to make the guy suspenders and shoes a different shade of brown so that Leon would stand out more. He was really easy when it cam to picking stuff out :) Q: What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day? “The special moment was at the ceremony when we walked down the isle together after saying I do. It was that moment when it was all so real, we had finally did it after everything we went through. It was the happiest moment of the day.” Q: Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice to share with other couples? “I would like to share that even though wedding planning can be very stressful and sometimes you may feel like no one is helping and its all going bad, you have to center your mind on what is most important, the marriage between you and the one you love most. “Yes, having the day go perfect and look perfect is important, but the actual marriage is what is most important. After stressing about everything I would try and focus my mind on what I was getting from it all – a husband. The fact that we were getting married at the church with our friends and family there was what was most important on that day.”
