Outdoor BBQ Wedding with Fall DIY Inspiration

Their Story

Matt and Kyan’s outdoor BBQ wedding is just the right amount of fall inspiration, with many great DIY ideas put together by the bride.  Kyan runs the blog Love in a Mason Jar.

From the Bride: “I’m sure every bride says it, but I think our wedding was just perfect! We wanted the celebration to feel like us and more like a giant outdoor family BBQ where everyone was welcome, complete with long picnic style table set up, hanging round twinkle lights, burlap table runners, mason jars, cowboy boots, and of course a BBQ dinner and homemade desserts.  The ceremony was performed together by our dads so it was personal and special.  And the reception felt so relaxed and comfortable, like we were having a giant BBQ dinner in our backyard with our 200+ friends and family.  We didn’t stick to what we had seen in the past, or what we thought we should do, and I’m so happy we did.  That’s what made it such a personal, comfortable and relaxed celebration, which is exactly what marriage is – a celebration of love and family.”

“Most things we did were DIY, and on weekends we designed and created and went to markets to scope out vintage finds.  The whole wedding planning process was such a fun adventure of ideas and creating with friends and family (and it was only a 4 month engagement!  Ladies it can be done!!).  Although we couldn’t have done it without all the help from the people we love.  It was such a wonderful feeling seeing everyone pull together to make the wedding happen!  My carpenter husband designed the layout for our wedding, including building the doorway for me to walk through using 100 year old doors AND the ceremony backdrop.”

“My father-in-law baked our chocolate chip cookie favors and family assembled them into little paper bags and stamped them with a custom stamp.  Family and friends baked tons of homemade goodies to serve as dessert.  My bridesmaids and I made our own bouquets and assembled all the flowers in mason jars for the reception and ceremony.  My dad even helped cut the burlap table runners for our 40 foot long tables!  I hope these photos (captured by our wonderful photographer and friend, Bethany Cissel) can help inspire others to make their wedding totally about them as a couple and whatever represents their love for each other and their families.”
