Outdoor Wedding with Soft & Romantic Color Palette

Last Updated: March 8th, 2021/6 CommentsTopic: REAL WEDDINGSby Meredith

Well, it’s Monday and it’s raining here in Seattle (surprise, surprise!) so we decided we needed a good pick-me-up post. Carly and Billy’s wedding definitely fits that bill–it could pull us out of a funk any day! With a soft and romantic color palette, loads of lovely details, mile-wide smiles, and the prettiest photography, this wedding could not get better.

Carly is an amazingly talented wedding planner and stylist for her own company Carly Rae Weddings. Be sure to check her out if you need someone to help you pull together your own wedding details!

From Carly: We decided to make our theme sailing because “our” song is “Sailboats” by Brooke Fraser. It talks about drifting away together + no matter the season, our love will remain strong. “the tide is out, the moon is high, we’re sailing.” is some of the lyrics that inspired us to do a “sail away” inspired wedding and we knew when we were planning our wedding that we didn’t want something traditionally nautical. I wanted something that was romantic + soft with what I like to call, “the undercurrent” (which is where the sailboats/blue/stripes came in)! We also knew we didn’t want a ton of decor because the venue is just SO stunning. We didn’t want to bog down nature.

I knew I was walking down to our song “Sailboats” so I’d listen to it in my car months prior to the wedding and I would feel so excited I would just cry happy tear – not like one tear, we’re talking BAWLING! I wanted to cry out everything so I wouldn’t be a wreck at the wedding! I can’t believe it worked. I don’t think I’d ever felt that much peace and joy walking down the aisle to Billy. It was the coolest experience!

The best part of the wedding is hard to narrow down. We had the WEEK of a lifetime. With all our family + closest friends here partying it up with us. The more weddings we work, the more we find that weddings are WHO is there supporting you. I would say committing our lives to each other in front of the people we love was amazing! Among other things: the firetruck crashing our wedding + our officiant tearing up!

We wanted to invite everyone we knew so we came up with some unique ways to accommodate our friends and family! Some little details that we loved was our TK burger truck and organic ice cream cart (Sweet Lucies!) Also, each of our guests received a vial of loose tea for them to take home and enjoy (one of our favorite dates is tea time).

Advice for Future Brides

My advice: know your limits and do a budget! We had so many amazing vendors and an amazing venue that I would say remember that you are getting married and don’t try to stress yourself to throw a showcase event! DIY projects are so much fun but remember these things take time. Know your limits and know how much you are willing to spend (both time and money) on projects that enhance your wedding venue.
