Chic Austin Texas Wedding
Today’s wedding is full of romantic, shabby chic details and jaw-dropping florals! We got a lot of information from Halley, the bride, so we’ll let her take it from here!
Proposal Story
“Mike and I met in Austin, Texas in June 2010. One of my very good friends from medical school had been friends with Mike since college, and on a summer night out in Austin, he invited Mike to come out with us. Mike and I ended up talking with each other all night and went out on our first date at Max’s Wine Dive in downtown Austin a few days later. We have been together ever since.
“Mike proposed to me in January 2012 in the most wonderful and romantic way. After an all day spa treatment at Milk and Honey that Mike had given me for Christmas, I expected him to pick me up to go to a nice dinner after. As I was leaving, the staff at Milk and Honey surprised me by telling me that there was a limo outside waiting for me.
“I immediately knew that this was it, the night that we would get engaged. I was so nervous and excited that the girls at Milk and Honey gave me a drink to help calm me down. I was expecting Mike to be inside of the limo but instead, there was a sweet note, a bottle of my favorite champagne, and an Austin Wedding magazine.
“The limo driver took me to the 360 bridge and balloons led the way to a bluff overlooking Lake Austin and the Hill County. Leading up were pictures representing different moments in our relationship. When I got to the top, Mike was waiting there with the biggest smile.
“He proposed and I, of course, said yes. On the way down together, the pictures had been changed to images of our anticipated future. From there, the limo took us to my favorite restaurant where close family and friends were waiting.”
Wedding Style and Inspiration
“Mike and I started planning our wedding soon after the engagement. We both love Austin for so many reasons and given that it is also the city where we first met, it was only fitting that we get married here. We both knew we wanted to have a winter wedding so we set the date for December 30, 2012. We wanted our wedding to be small and intimate; a special day that we could share with our close friends and family. I had always pictured myself getting married outside in a beautiful garden filled with greens and flowers and radiating romance. As soon as we stepped into the garden at Hummingbird House and saw the beautiful flowers, trees, gazebo wrapped in vines, and classic white tent with chandeliers, we knew that it was perfect venue for both our ceremony and reception!”
Bridal Attire
“I chose to wear a classic, elegant A-line wedding dress with a silver beaded and crystal belt with a crystal headband. I decided to wear my hair down in soft curls to add to the romantic feel of the day. My friend and amazing hair stylist Alexis Allison styled my hair in exactly the way I had envisioned.”
Wedding Color Scheme
“We decided to pick ivory and shades of pink as our wedding colors to give our ceremony an air of romance and enchantment . Accents of silver, crystals and bare branches were added to give the wedding a wintery feel. April Klotz from PetalWorks knew exactly what our vision for our wedding day was and transformed our vision into the gorgeous, enchanted, romantic, winter garden wedding that we had dreamed of. It was a little chilly that day, so my bridesmaids all wore silver pashminas over their long pink dresses with one shoulder flowery straps. Each of my bridesmaids were given unique crystal hair pins to wear that day.”
“Mike was the one behind thinking and creating the details of our wedding, which are what I feel really make each wedding unique and special. Each table at our reception was named after a city or place that he and I had visited together and was meaningful to us. The table signs were made by Mike himself. Mike also made the escort cards and stamped a monogrammed H M wax seal in pink or silver on each one. We had our first dance to David Gray’s “This Year’s Love” a song that we both love. Our wedding day was perfect to us in every way. It captured who we both are and was exactly what we had both envisioned. We loved every second of it and will always be able to look back on that day with the gorgeous photography and works of art created by Jona and Jerry Blackwell from Forever Photography!”
