Challenges faced planning your wedding?
“I planned the wedding while interning in between my two years of business school. The summer I planned the wedding I was living in NYC and had to do most of it remotely. Luckily, I trusted my wedding planner and caterer blindly and let them make some of the decisions. I was able to do most of it based on pictures and video calls.”
Tips to share with brides planning their own wedding?
“Give up the details. I did not worry too much about where things would be placed, the order of events or the perfect flowers. I trusted the experts and let them guide me. This made it a lot easier to not worry the day of and just enjoy my time getting ready with friends and family. I trusted everything was being taken care of and it was. The day of your wedding, people should be telling you what time it is and where you need to be, you should not be looking at a watch. Just relax and soak in the moment.”
Tell us about your Bridesmaids’ Attire
“There were no color, theme or guidelines. I let my two maids of honor pick what they wanted to wear. It turned out well! They both chose purple, and my brother who officiated the wedding randomly wore a light purple tie. None of it was planned!”
How many guests were invited and what was the final guest count?
“We invited around 75 guests and had a final guest count of about 60. It was difficult to narrow the list down. We left out a lot of family and friends that mean a lot to us individually, but we tried to invite those that have shared moments with both of us. It is not easy, but it also was the best way to go about it since we only had 4 months to plan it.”
What were the highlights from the ceremony and reception?
“The highlight was getting married in the same living room that Chris (groom) grew up in. It felt very intimate, it wasn’t overwhelming or intimidating and everyone could hear and see us. The best part of the reception was dancing to both country and Latin music. Our families are from Texas and El Salvador so getting to enjoy both types of music was fun! Our delicious mason jar pies, provided by Butterface Bake Shop, were out of this world!”
What was the budget?
“We had about a $25K budget and we stayed around there. We didn’t try to save on anything in particular. The music we did decide to do a DJ versus a live band, and that saved a lot.”
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
“We went to Vietnam and Korea for 2 weeks and made a couple stops in Saigon and Con Dao island, which is very isolated but romantic. We stayed at the most beautiful resort called the Six Senses, which is on a small island off the southern coast of Vietnam. Near the end of the trip we stayed a few nights in Seoul, Korea before heading back home to Texas.”
