Backyard Wedding in El Cajon with Wine Theme
Comments from Cavin Elizabeth Photography
“Jeff and Shayla are two of the kindest souls I have ever met. They happened to have been entered in a nomination-based contest by Shayla’s daughter, Caitlyn, to win a wedding photography collection with me. I had to hold back tears as I read the sweet words Caitlyn wrote about how much Jeff and Shayla have struggled to pull together a wedding that represented their personalities and love on their tight budget.
“Caitlyn also wrote about how much of a major sweetheart Jeff is and how much he and Shayla are madly in love. Of course, I had to choose these two!
“The happy couple’s wedding took place in Jeff’s mother’s backyard that overlooks the gorgeous mountains surrounding El Cajon. Market lights were hung from the house to the gazebo that served as the ceremony location and later the dance floor. It was truly spectacular! The guests were in awe throughout the entire half hour. It was so special to be a part of such an honest and genuine moment in Jeff and Shayla’s lives.
Decorations
“Upon entry to the house, rows of hanging lanterns were accompanied by hanging plants embellished with white lace bows. A large chalkboard sign was decorated with almost every image from Jeff and Shayla’s engagement session. It always melts my heart to see couples making excellent use of these images at their wedding!
“Wine corks and small clear stones were scattered throughout the wedding decor tables, making for a cohesive look for their wine themed wedding. The couple adorned the white ceremony chairs with images of themselves as children. It was especially exciting for the bride’s daughter, as well as for the groom’s daughter, Carly.
Guestbook
“Jeff and Shayla forewent the traditional guestbook to have their guests sign rocks, which was a complete excitement for everyone.”
Wedding Flowers
“Suspended vases of flowers, plants, glass orbs, and a chandelier beautifully tied together the elegance of this backyard affair. Especially stunning was the white tulle that was paired with roses and hydrangeas to frame the gazebo. One of Shayla’s coworkers and close friends beautifully officiated the wedding, which made for an incredibly intimate and personal ceremony.”
Wedding Reception
For the reception, decor included a single orchid, stemless chalkboard wine glasses, wine corks, a burlap runner, custom purple napkins, and a bell to ring for newlywed kissed. Jeff and Shayla sat at an adorable sweetheart table, equipped with a quote about marriage that is perfectly fit for this couple! Cornhole, a DIY photo booth with an iPad and printer, many other games, and a lemonade, wine, and sangria station kept their 30 guests thoroughly entertained.
“Once it got chilly by night, guests were able to grab a blanket and snuggle up together. Shayla even handmade their ‘M’ initial out of dozens of wine corks, further winning at the DIY game!
“This was the most intimate and yet the most exciting wedding I’ve photographed in a very long time. You could feel the love between Jeff and Shayla and the appreciation they held for their closest friends and family members. These two will surely share a lifetime of love and happiness!”

Comments from the Couple
“We had a wine themed wedding. Our two girls walked me down the aisle and we gave them a gift in honor of our families becoming one. Our decorations included: twinkle lights, candles, wine corks and wine crates. We made stemless chalkboard wine glasses for our guests to keep and our own custom cornhole boards. Food included delicious beef brisket and pulled pork BBQ from our favorite BBQ place. The goal was to have fun and enjoy our day!”
