About This Wedding

Q1: Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day? “When Colin and I began planning for our wedding we knew we wanted to do something outside and had always talked about how fun it would be to get married at a vineyard. We both grew up in Connecticut and as soon as we visited Jonathan Edwards Winery we knew it was the perfect place to have our wedding! The winery itself was so beautiful and we felt like it fit our vision perfectly, plus we loved the wine! We were really drawn to a dusty blue color palette with lots of lush greenery and hints of ivory and pink and loved the way the natural wood looked at the vineyard.” Q2: Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY? “We wanted to choose decor that we felt complimented the natural beauty of the vineyard. We loved the look of the stained wood signs and we made our own stained wood guest book for all our guests to sign that now hangs in our apartment! Colin’s mom made beautiful personalized stained wooden corn hole boards that our guests could enjoy during the cocktail hour. We also tried to include dusty blue accents that matched the bridesmaids dresses where we could such as the seating chart, the napkins and the table numbers.” Q3: What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding? “When picking our flowers we really wanted to select flowers that we felt complimented the natural beauty of the winery. We loved the neutral pastels mixed with lush greenery like eucalyptus. Our florist, Noreen of Earth Blossoms Flowers, encouraged us to incorporate unique blooms like thistle to match the blue hues of the wedding party and even added in some succulents to my bouquet which turned out amazing! The bouquets really helped to pull all of the wedding colors together and I was so pleased with how they all turned out.” Q4: Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding? “One of our best decisions when planning our wedding was hiring our wedding band, Hot Mess. We knew we wanted the day to feel like a party that everyone could enjoy rather than just a party for us. Our goal for the reception was to have everyone on the dance floor enjoying themselves and that was exactly how the night played out. “We will never forget the last song of the night everyone jumping up and down surrounding us , it was absolutely surreal! After the last dance was over,  we surprised our guests with a sparkler exit which was SO FUN! Getting to walk through all of our guests cheering us on as we made our way to our vintage getaway car was awesome and gave us one of our favorite photos of the night!” Q5: Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail. “I knew that I wanted something that was both beautiful and romantic as well as light and comfortable since we were having an outdoor wedding in the middle of the summer. It was actually the second dress that I tried on and I knew it was the one. The illusion neckline with the silk flowers and sparkle was so romantic and the dress was so light and easy to move in. The dress fit me perfectly, it just felt like it was made for me. “I actually found my shoes when I was shopping for a pair of jeans and spotted the blue suede heels, my something blue!We knew our wedding colors were going to be shades of blue and I had already chosen the dusty blue for the bridesmaids, so we both agreed navy suits would be the perfect compliment. I had always loved the look of the bowtie and Colin was able to find one that pulled in the color of the bridesmaids dresses. Colin surprised his groomsmen with matching brown dress shoes and fun socks and they all looked great!” Q6: How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal. “Colin and I are actually high school sweethearts! We met eachother when we were about 16 years old and continued to date on and off through college. After college we moved around the country together until finally ending up back home in the Northeast. “I am not very easily surprised so I figured I would know when the proposal was coming, but Colin managed to pull the whole thing off without me even being suspicious. It was actually his birthday so I had made reservations at a nice restaurant in the city and had gotten all dressed up when we decided to grab a drink down by the water before leaving for dinner. “We decided to take a walk down the pier before heading out and Colin got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! Needless to say I said yes!” Q7: What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day? “Hands down one of the most special moments of the day was our first look! We had coordinated with our photographer and videographer to set aside time before the ceremony for Colin and I to have a first look with just the two of us amongst the vines. “I will never forget the look on Colin’s face when he turned around for the first time! It was so special getting to have that time to ourselves before the wedding. It immediately calmed any nerves  and let us just relax and enjoy our wedding day, plus it gave us some of our favorite photos from the day!” Q8: Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day? “Yes! You will spend so much of your engagement stressing over the wedding day and planning for every little detail. But, when the actual wedding day comes, try to just relax and enjoy it for what it is, YOUR WEDDING DAY! All the hard work is done and everyone is there to celebrate you! “Don’t ruin your day by stressing out if something doesn’t turn out exactly how you wanted. In the end, you will be the only one who knows what went wrong and you will be so much happier if you just allow yourself to have fun and enjoy your day!”
