11 Meteorite Wedding Bands that are (Cue Pun) Out of this World

We think a meteorite wedding band is the perfect way to elevate a common symbol of love to a whole new level of forever.

When you love someone more than anything in the world, you want to find unique ways to show them. What better way than a wedding band crafted of materials not from this world?

Meteorite Wedding Bands for Him

We’ve long searched for a jewelry design company who caters exclusively to men, and manlybands.com blew us away with its selection of gorgeous, masculine designs.

1. Black Zirconium & Meteorite Ring

by Etsy: RenaissanceJewelry

Black Zirconium & Meteorite Ring

It was tough to decide which men’s ring would top our list, but this one just stood out. Made from black zirconium and gibeon meteorite, we found its sexy, smouldery gray color irresistible.

2. Damascus Steel & Meteorite Ring

by Etsy: RevolutionJewel

Damascus Steel & Meteorite Ring

This ring’s handcrafted Damascus steel design with 3mm of Gibeon Meteorite is as unique yet classic as he is.

3. Steel & Meteorite Ring

by RobandLean

Steel & Meteorite Ring

The pattern on this handcrafted damascus steel and meteorite ring is certainly eye catching. We love the contrast between the dark meteorite hues against the acid etching in the steel.

4. Rose Gold & Meteorite Ring

by PillarStyles

Rose Gold & Meteorite Ring

This 18K rose gold ring is a stunning example of why gold will never go out of style. We think the contrast of the black meteorite against the warm, rose gold hue is just beautiful.

5. Titanium & Meteorite Ring

by RenaissanceJewelry

Titanium & Meteorite Ring

So delicate, this titanium ring with gibeon meteorite inlay is a unique take on a classic band. This ring seems to possess a radiance that comes from the inside out.

6. Rose Gold Tungsten & Meteorite Ring

by rcornejojewelry

Rose Gold Tungsten & Meteorite Ring

The rose gold of this ring glows against the meteorite inlay so beautifully, they look like they were made to be together. Have it engraved with a special message to let her know you were made to be together too.

7. Titanium & Meteorite Ring

by KimbroughKustoms

Titanium & Meteorite Ring

This ring is just so cool, we had to show it to you. The design is inspired by textures found in nature (as you’ll see), and it’s one of the more unusual bands we’ve seen so far.

8. Tungsten, Deer Antler, & Meteorite Ring

by UnityRingDesigns

Tungsten, Deer Antler, & Meteorite Ring

This ring sports tungsten, deer antler, meteorite, and rose gold copper. We know, it’s a lot going on for one ring, but trust us on this one, you’ll love it. It’s so rustic, and honestly, will stand out beautifully with anything you choose to wear with it. Comes as a set or separately.

Meteorite Bands For Both

9. His and Hers Titanium & Gibeon Meteorite Rings

by jewelrybyjohan

His and Hers Titanium & Gibeon Meteorite Rings

Matching titanium and gibeon meteorite rings are a great way to get a lot of “oohs” and “aahs” on your wedding day (and every day after that…). This set is traditional, yet totally untraditional in the best way ever.

10. His and Hers Opal, Meteorite & Moissanite Rings

by RobandLean

His and Hers Opal, Meteorite & Moissanite Rings

Opal is so eye-catching, when we saw these gibeon meteorite and opal rings, we were mesmerized. This one’s a complete set, including a solitaire ring with 5mm blue-green moissanite, and custom engraving to make them uniquely yours.

11. His and Hers Rose Gold & Tungsten Rings

by Etsy: rcornejojewelry

His and Hers Rose Gold & Tungsten Rings

Similar to the women’s band, these rose gold, tungsten matching rings are radiant enough on their own, but together, they shine brighter.

Main Types Of Meteorites

We’ve done a little homework about meteorite wedding bands, and there are definitely things you should know in order to make an informed buying decision.

Not just any ol’ type of meteor makes up a quality wedding band. It takes a certain classification. Let’s have a quick science lesson on the main types of meteorites:

Stony Meteorites

These are made up of mostly silica (here on Earth, you’ll find silica most commonly in quartz), and are the most common meteorites.

Iron-Nickel Meteorites

Considerably less common than stony meteorites, metallic meteorites represent less than 10% of what comes to Earth. These are made almost exclusively from nickel-iron, but also sometimes contain small amounts of sulphide and carbide minerals.

Stony-Metallic Meteorites

There are two types of stony-metallic meteorites: pallasites and mesosiderites.

Pallasite meteors are widely coveted for their beauty, as they contain a form of magnesium-iron silicate called olivine embedded within the metal.

Olivine is gorgeous when polished, making stony-metallic meteorites the most coveted when it comes to jewelry making.

While shopping around, you’ll probably notice Gibeon and Seymchan meteorites are the most commonly found in jewelry (made from metallic meteorites). These are chosen for their reasonable availability, and sturdiness. They’ll resist rust better than other more iron-heavy metals as well.

Real Meteorite vs Artificial

There are a few ways you can tell the difference between real meteorite, and artificial:

  • The first (and most obvious) way to tell if a meteorite wedding band is real is to make sure it comes with a certificate of authenticity.
  • Acids such as nitric acid and sulfuric acid will easily damage genuine meteorite. Not that we’re advocating that you put your ring to the test this way, but it’s good to know just in case.
  • Real meteorite is magnetic because of it’s high metal content. If your ring isn’t attracted by a magnet, it’s probably not real meteorite.
  • Meteorite rusts easily because of it’s high iron content. Of course, this doesn’t mean that some imitation rings don’t rust either, but it’s a hallmark of a real meteorite ring.

Pros And Cons

As with every major important purchase, you need to know the pros and cons behind purchasing a meteorite wedding band. After all, this is going to be forever.

Pros

  • Unique and modern, each ring is different and really cool
  • Super symbolic beyond the traditional diamond
  • Surprisingly reasonably priced compared with other materials
  • Works well with others (metals)

Cons

  • Due to their high iron content, they can be prone to rust
  • They can be pretty complicated to care for, including requiring intermittent re-etching to remove rust and reveal its natural pattern again
  • The selection of styles is limited compared to traditional bands

A Final Word On Meteorite Wedding Bands

If you’re looking for a wedding band that is really different and makes a statement, a meteorite ring does just that. Because of the nature of the materials, no two pieces are alike. Giving the one you love a ring that was made just for them, can never be replicated, and comes from the far reaches of the galaxy, it doesn’t get much more romantic than that!

21 Personalized Wedding Favors (They’ll Actually Use!)

We feel there are a few things to keep in mind, however, when giving personalized wedding favors. The most obvious being: Is it something they’ll want to receive?

personalized wedding favor example

Commemorating your big day is a group effort, and most people want to give back to those who witness the vows, cry during the best man’s speech, and do the electric slide well into the wee hours of the night.

These are the people who will contribute in their own beautiful ways to making your wedding day extra special, so choosing tasteful, personalized wedding favors your guests can actually use is a great way to let them know you appreciate them.

Looking for CHEAP WEDDING FAVORS? We created a page dedicated to those, take a look!

Tips for Personalizing Wedding Favors

When done well, personalized gifts are a great token of affection commemorating your magical day.

Everyone’s got their own style, and that’s a great thing. If yours is a favor that’s super personalized with pictures of the bride and groom along with names and dates and such, have at it.

However, we very humbly suggest (particularly if you’re looking at keepsake favors) that not everyone may want it!

For instance, in our list we recommended a cozy fleece blanket. Read on, you’ll love them. Very cool if you keep it low-key, but if a whole wedding announcement is printed on it, it may very well end up in the back of a closet never to be seen again.

It’s pretty simple: when attending a wedding ask yourself what you would want to receive as a favor.

Top Personalized Favor Picks

Here are some things that we’d love to receive as a wedding favor, and we think you’ll like them too.

Think Local. Whether you’re getting married in your hometown or throwing a fabulous destination wedding, gifts with local flair are great if you can swing it.

1. Honey-Themed Favors

Honey-themed favors are taking off these days, which is why we published a whole article dedicated to favors featuring honey, along with some thoughtful gestures for the bees that make it.

honey wedding favors

Why not take it a step further and give local honey?

2. Beach-Friendly Favors

flip-flops wedding favor

Many people are hosting outdoor weddings, and some of those will undoubtedly be held at the beach. If you’re lucky enough to host one (or be invited to one) these great beach-friendly favors are useful.

3. Seeds & Herbs

seed tin

Regional seeds for herbs, veggies, fruits, or flowers are easy to grow. Present them in cute, personalizable tins and you’ve got a lovely favor for everyone to take home on their way out.

Edible Favors – Treat your guests to something special they’ll love to eat! Chances are, by the time they leave the reception, they’ll be stuffed. Make sure you package your treats in ways that are easy to take home.

4. Donuts

Dozen Donut Favor Boxes

Donuts! Your guests will love to wake up the next morning with a donut and coffee, and these fabulous ‘holy matrimony’ personalizable boxes are perfect for pastry transport.

5. Cupcakes

cup stand

Cupcakes! If donuts won’t do, or if you can get a better deal from your baker on some fancy cupcakes (preferably that match your cake), you can put them in these adorable mini cake stands. Attach personalized tags, and you’ve got a beautiful favor-to-go.

6. Mini Champagne Bottles

mini champagne bottles

Gift mini champagne bottles, or airplane bottles of fancy aperitifs like St. Germain, or our favorite- lavender. You can usually buy these cheaper in bulk from your local wine and liquors store, then check out Etsy’s seemingly never ending selection of great wedding favor tags to attach and personalize.

7. Oil & Vinegar

mini olive oil

Not sure if alcohol favors are the way to go? Give them delicate bottles of oil and vinegar. These are so cool, and there are plenty of options to choose from, including infused varieties.

8. Almonds

bag of jordan almonds

A traditional Italian wedding staple, you really can’t go wrong with Jordan Almonds. Buy them in pastels (customized to your color theme), or crisp white. Package them up in personalized tins, boxes, etc. We especially loved these little bags.

9. Playing Cards

If you’re going to go non-food, consider selecting something your guest will realistically love to use, or display.

personalized playing cards

Why not gift favor playing cards! They’re so useful — everyone has a deck of playing cards for candlelight games when the power goes out, right? And, you’ll hear more than a couple of your guests exclaim “Oh wow, what a neat idea!”

We thought these were neat, but there are a ton of options out there for designs and customizations. Besides, when your fam is worn out, but the party’s still raging, a mean game of gin rummy or Texas hold ‘em is always a blast.

10. Birdseed

birdseed weddiing favors

Birdseed is popular to throw over the bride and groom. As such, birdseed ornaments are becoming popular take-home favors to attract local songbirds. They come in all kinds of creative forms, and we really liked these simple hearts.

11. Soaps or Candles

soap wedding favors

Some may say the ubiquitous fancy soaps or candles are cliche, but we say they’re classics that will never go out of style. Besides, everyone can use a fancy soap for the guest bathroom or a pretty candle for the coffee table.

12. Blankets

blanket wedding favors

A fleece blanket tastefully embroidered with your initials and the date very small in the corner makes a great gift. Especially if it gets chillier as the evening goes on, your guests will love to grab one, cozy up with a glass of wine, and watch your uncle Dave get crazy on the dance floor.

13. Tea Towels

tea towel wedding favor

Tea towels are useful, and you can integrate them into your place settings. Keep it simple, maybe just the date of your wedding and a short, lovely quote.

14. Candy Jar Favors

by CornerLuxeGiftStore

NOTE: If you want to include a quote on your blankets or tea towels, be sure to be considerate when thinking about what to say. (As much as you can, anyway. You can’t please all the people all the time.)

Keep in mind, not everyone is married or is in a place where they have someone special in their lives, so try to stay as general and objective as possible.

For instance:

“To love or have loved, that is enough. Ask nothing further. There is no other pearl to be found in the dark folds of life.”

-Victor Hugo, Les Misérables

Gorgeous, right? But maaaybe a little… dark. if you’ve got a guest who isn’t having the best of luck with love at the moment, it’s not exactly a message full of hope and sunshine. Of course, it is from Les Misérables, so what do you expect, right?

Anyway, we digress.

Here are some we think are pretty neat, and that won’t make your single bridesmaids want to burn it whenever they see it hanging in the kitchen:

“You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.”

-Dr. Seuss

“Life without love is like a tree without blossoms or fruit.”

-Khalil Gibran

If you’re a particularly casual couple, you could get funny. Especially cool if you print your sentiment in calligraphy, you could say something like:

“I went to (your names here)’s wedding, and all I got was this lousy tea towel.”

And finally, if you want to be timely (and you don’t think it’ll land sideways with your guests):

“With the whole world crumbling, we pick this time to fall in love.”

-Ilsa in Casablanca

A Few Final Favor Words

The ideas we’ve listed here are merely suggestions. Trust us, you’ll find yourself down a serious wedding favor rabbit hole once you start shopping around, and you’ll probably run across all kinds of things you love.

Do us a favor (ha! puns!) and leave a comment about your unique wedding favors. If you’ve got pics, even better! We’d love to hear what you came up with for your special day…

Remember, if it all becomes too much, wedding favors aren’t a life or death situation. They’re always appreciated, but never required. Happy favor shopping!

Ultimate List of Things to Rent for Your Wedding – Some May Surprise You!

Ahhh, the ubiquitous wedding checklist. If you’re planning a (big outdoor?) large wedding, we hope you have a wedding planner to manage it for you.

If not, take heart in the comfort of knowing there are a lot of quality sources to pull it off without a hitch.

Wedding Safety in the Age of COVID

COVID-19 is wrecking big planned celebrations everywhere.

While we hate that with a passion, we’re absolutely not advocating that you throw a big wedding during these dangerous times. The safety of your guests, support staff, yourselves, the community at large- pretty much everyone, has never been more important.

That said, if you’ve postponed your big day then why not use that extra time for planning? A good thing to come from a bad situation. The circumstances may have convinced you that when the time is right, taking your venue outdoors is a better plan.

That’s why we’ve put together this can’t-miss essential list of items to rent for your outdoor wedding.

Wedding Rental Staples

Hopefully you’ve done a little homework on what is best to rent vs purchase. If not, take a gander at our buying guide to help you decide, then come on back here to learn more about renting swag.

1. Rent a Tent

wedding reception tent marquee

In these bizarre days of COVID-19, outdoor weddings are more popular than ever. In some places, they’re required by law if you have a large wedding party. (More on this in a minute.)

You don’t need us to tell you that having a tent just in case is non-negotiable. Yet it’s not as simple as simply throwing up a tent, et voila, you’re good.

Here are some basic things your tent should feature:

  • Rain gutters
  • Pole covers or canopy drapes
  • Decorated marquee entrance
  • Arches
  • Clear sides (if preferred)
  • Separate tents for catering and anyone else who needs more space

2. Dance Floor

wedding reception dance floor

Dance floors can be rented if your venue doesn’t already include one. Tally your guest list and ask your rental company what they recommend.

Industry standard is usually 4-5 feet per guest, but you’ll have to assume your uncle and the best man will probably have a b-boy battle at some point. You may want to measure generously!

Don’t forget the stage for entertainers, and a custom backdrop for a photo space if that’s on the agenda.

3. Bar

wedding reception bar

For some, this is the most important part of the night.

Whether you’re going for the full gamut of beer and wine, or non-alcoholic cocktail options, it’s about the libations and the gathering space.

People tend to congregate around the bar. Choose wisely when it comes to style, space, and service (or none if you create a DIY bar situation). Whatever makes for a friendly drinking situation.

Oh, and the cardinal rule? Assume everyone will drink way more than you anticipate.

There’s no bigger buzzkill than running out of drinks. If you purchase your own alcohol, you can take it home after the shindig, or divvy it up between the members of your bridal party if you’re feeling generous.

4. Tables and Chairs for Everyone

The reason we emphasize ‘everyone’ here is because sometimes the plan for seating is based on the guest list alone.

wedding reception table and chairs

Don’t forget about your musicians, catering staff, and anyone else who may need to take a seat and get off their feet at some point.

The same goes for tables. Designate a table for favors, gifts/cards, the cake(s), etc.

5. Furniture for Lounging

We love the less formal, social area idea to include in a wedding space. If you’ve ever been to a wedding with big round dining tables only, you’ll know that can be awkward to communicate over.

wedding reception lounge area

Set up a little space reminiscent of a family room complete with sofas, chairs, benches, coffee and/or end tables. Many companies offer decorative touches such as fancy pillows and some really neat lighting options to make it extra cozy. Speaking of lighting…

6. Don’t Forget the Generator

When hosting an outdoor wedding, you may not have a choice except to use a generator. Even if your venue does have a power source, it’s always a good idea to be prepared.

Think very carefully about all of the things you need power for beyond lighting:

  • Entertainment
  • A PA system for toasts to the bride and groom
  • Caterers
  • And more

Being stuck without power is almost as bad as running out of drinks.

One wedding Love & Lavender planned at a beautiful old castle venue in Ireland ended in flames, literally. The power source got overloaded and a fire in the engine room ensued. Thanks centuries old castle without adequate power!

Long story short, we had to hastily move the entire party to one of the nearby buildings on the grounds. If we had a backup generator on hand, we likely could have stuck with our Plan A for the wedding reception festivities!

7. Flatware, Dinnerware, and Barware

We don’t have to tell you to provide guests with things to eat, drink, and be merry. Depending upon your caterers, they may insist you rent theirs, or choose from an affiliate company.

wedding reception plates cutlery

If they do let you rent your own, don’t be afraid to get really different. Colorful stemware or vintage/retro-themed bar and flatware is super neat to include as well as unique dinnerware.

Don’t even get us started on the cool things you can do with chargers and cake stands!

8. Linens and Napkins

wedding reception table runner and napkins

These usually include items such as:

  • Napkins
  • Table runners
  • Table skirts
  • Tablecloths
  • Chair covers

Depending upon your style and theme, you may choose to omit some or add other touches, like fabrics to decorate the ceiling of your tent, for instance.

Don’t forget to plan insurance into your budget for linens that get stained or damaged, and delivery and pick-up.

9. Floral

wedding reception flowers

Flowers are so impactful at a wedding, it’s really not a stretch to say that visually speaking, they’re the icing on the cake.

TheKnot has a great article full of tips on how to handle the flower situation for your wedding. Also, how much you can expect to pay for your flowers and essentials such as vases, centerpieces, and candle holders.

Hint: probably a lot. We have a trick or two to help take the sting out of that price later in this article.

10. A Word On Restrooms

If you’re having an outdoor wedding without access to indoor facilities, renting restroom trailers is a must. Of course, we’re not talking “port-a-potty” here. You’d be amazed at the number of options available for restroom trailers with plenty of space and accoutrements.

As you can imagine, the fancier the trailer, the higher the price tag.

You’ll need to budget in things like how many trailers you’ll need to accommodate the size of your guest list, delivery, set up, and pick up.

It’s not like you can go without them. Pardon the pun.

Ways to Save Without Sacrificing Style

Harness The Infinite Expanse Of The Web

  • Create your own free wedding website where your guests can find updates, communications, leave RSVP’s, and registry information. It’s a great way to save some dough on communications you may have ordinarily sent through the mail, and your guests will be happy for the convenience.

We suggest Minted for wedding websites.

  • If you can, skip the wedding planner and use a site that offers planning tools like checklists, budgeting, timelines, guest lists, and much more.
  • Put social media to work for you. Instagram, FaceBook, even LinkedIn are great places to seek out up-and-coming talent for your DJ or band, photographers, etc.
  • Use web-based companies like Wedit. They are an extremely creative (and less expensive) option for visually documenting your celebration and sharing it with your guests. Again, they’ll thank you for the convenience, and you’ll love the finished product.

Do The Best You Can With What You’ve Already Got

  • Put your flowers on double duty from ceremony to reception. Ask your florist for options, chances are they’ll have an ingenious trick or two for making that happen.
  • Strategic linen use can be a game changer when it comes to saving a buck or two. Consider using the most quality pieces like table dressings and draped chairs for areas where your guests will be dining and drinking the most. For the cake or gift tables, go for the less expensive options.

If you’ve got the time and inclination, you can also purchase and resell your linens. Minted.com sells some beautiful, independently designed linens that you’ll have zero problems finding some takers for.

Go green and cut back on your printed items. Limiting your number of programs to one per party to share, consider ordering all of your printed items at once to cut down on printing fees, and reconsider how you spend money on cardstock and extras like envelope liners.

Many are opting for RSVP postcards instead of traditional cards to cut down on spending as well, and TBH, some of them couldn’t be cuter.

Rental Wrap-up

No two weddings are alike, and the things on our list are just suggestions for common things people need to pull off their weddings without a hitch. (Or fewer hitches, anyway.)

You should always talk to your planners, vendors, and especially your caterer for any other items you’ll need for your unique situation. Don’t be afraid to ask a lot of questions, and let them know exactly what you want.

In the list of the most special days of your life, this one ranks among the top. The idea of that can be stressful when it comes to planning, don’t fall into the stress trap. Take time and be present for every moment (as best you can). Keep in mind, once those moments pass, they’ll be gone forever. Use them wisely.

Magical pegasus (unicorn) birthday invite

Speaking of magical things – unicorns will probably never go out of style. At least we hope not!

These invitations can go from fancy-pants when you add silver or glitter foil accents, to a little more demure (that’s what we’ve picked here). No matter what you pick, unicorns ROCK.

Tips for Less Stress

Most people aren’t going to expect a royal-grade event or immaculate invitations for your baby’s first birthday. Those people have staff for that, and also you’re exhausted!!

So don’t sweat the small stuff. Really. Do the best you can with what you’ve got and aim for unforgettable memories, whatever form those may take. At the end of the day, it’s about the pictures and the laughter.

First Birthday Invitation Wording

There are plenty of easy templates out there to help you word your invites brilliantly.

Don’t overthink wording. Here are a couple of examples:

Boy-Specific Wording

  • “Our little man is turning one, join us for a party that’s sure to be fun!”
  • “The first year has flown right by, join us to celebrate our favorite little guy!”
  • “Your presence is requested: come help celebrate the first birthday of our little prince.”

Girl-Specific Wording

  • “Our baby girl is growing fast, come celebrate with us and make memories to last.”
  • “Roses are red, violets are blue. Our girl’s turning one, we want to celebrate with you!”
  • “Our little rosebud blooms every day, let’s celebrate her first in a great big way!”

Everyone

  • “First birthday is here with cake and balloons, please come to the party, it’s happening soon!”
  • “Parties are great, there is no doubt. We’re throwing a first birthday bash, we hope you’ll come out!”
  • “You’re cordially invited to our baby’s first birthday, please come and party with us!”

Helpful Tips to Save Yourself Some Crazy

When to plan baby’s first birthday?

Timing your baby’s first may be one of the most important things to consider. Every baby is different, so while yours may be able to party all day, others may need a nap in the afternoon to avoid the dreaded meltdown.

Here are a few thoughts:

  • Schedule around nap times
  • Keep it to 2-3 hours
  • Consider meals and snacks besides birthday cake if you’re timing it when your baby boy or baby girl is likely to be hungry.
  • To make things easier for your guests and yourself send out invites 3 – 4 weeks in advance with a set RSVP

Who to invite

  • How many should I invite?

Big bash? Small gathering? Up to you of course. If you think you can successfully pass baby around to deal with big party stuff (and have some time without a baby on your hip) that might be a lot of fun. But if she’s a little shy or isn’t used to lots of action, maybe the fewer the better.

  • How do I keep my guest list modest without offending anyone?

That’s always a sticky one, no matter what party you’re throwing. There’s always the option of two parties: one for family and one for friends.

If that’s too high maintenance for your taste, some etiquette experts suggest cutting your list down by category rather than individual person. For instance, omit everyone from the “mom’s club” list, or leave out anyone in the “mommy/baby yoga class” list. This will cut down on a lot of hurt feelings once everyone realizes no one from the group was invited, it’s not personal.

  • What about other babies?

Meh. Again, up to you. If you think it’ll cause all the chaos and kill all the fun, maybe best to keep it to grownups. Then again, watching a bunch of babies hang out together is adorable if you’ve got the help.

Where to host a first birthday party

  • The easiest location is at home. Unless Grandma or Auntie (or Grandpa or Uncle) wants to host, and the birthday boy or birthday girl is comfortable there
  • A park party is always fun! Keep in mind the set-up and clean-up that’s involved

Alright, that’s all from us. One last word of wisdom – be sure to stock up on tissues in the future. You’ll need them in about 18 years when you come across her 1st birthday party pictures and reminisce, as you pack her off to college!

2022 Graduation Announcement Cards! What You Need to Know…

High school and college students everywhere had to think outside of the box (or the building, anyway) just to make it to the end of the 2022 school year, let alone get their graduation announcement cards in order!

We felt it was helpful (and timely) to offer a quick guide to graduation announcement etiquette, and some tips on how to send them out in style.

What’s the Difference Between a Graduation Announcement and an Invitation?

The difference between graduation announcements and graduation invitations are right in the name. Graduation announcements are just that: an announcement that includes details about your student’s degree and graduation.

Graduation invitations are an invitation to the ceremony itself.

Because students are usually only offered a limited amount of tickets, you have to be selective about who they invite to attend the graduation. The list usually includes:

  • Parents
  • Siblings
  • Grandparents
  • Aunts / Uncles
  • Anyone else who is considered near and dear

Hence the need for two different ways of notifying friends and family of the big occasion.

Graduation Announcement Etiquette

Chances are, you won’t have enough invites to send to everyone you’d like. Not everyone knows or understands this. For some, even if they did, they may be offended at being omitted from the list of people you invite to the ceremony.

For this reason, it’s considered good etiquette to wait until after the graduation ceremony to send out announcements, but it’s not completely necessary. We’ll be talking a little more about when to send out announcements later on in this article.

Social media announcements and blanket emails won’t get you thrown in etiquette jail, but it’s always a better idea to send out printed announcements. It may be a bit of a chore to gather addresses, but it’s well worth it.

Most everyone loves to receive post mail. And a beautiful announcement conveys how proud you are of your graduate!

It’s appropriate to print “No gifts, please” on your grad’s announcements if you don’t feel comfortable with gifts. If you’d like to make it an option, include small return-addressed and stamped envelopes with the announcements for the recipient to send cash or gift cards if they’d like.

Why send a Graduation Announcement, and to Whom?

Chances are, there will be a lot of friends and family, who will be delighted to receive an announcement of your student’s important milestone.

Don’t be shy about who you send an announcement to. Anyone you can think of who would be interested in hearing that your student has graduated should receive an announcement.

When Should I Send Graduation Announcements?

As mentioned earlier, sending out announcements after graduation may avoid potentially hurt feelings. If that’s not an issue, a good window is up to two weeks before graduation, to six weeks after.

Of course, extenuating circumstances (hello COVID!) may make this choice for you. It may be worth it to hold off when you’re anticipating things like special achievements, as your grad may want to make sure she graduated with honors before including it on the announcement.

What to Include in Your Graduation Announcement

College Graduation Announcement Etiquette

Information like what kind of degree your grad is receiving, their major, and any other relevant accomplishments such as graduating with honors should be included in a college announcement. As a rule, college graduation announcements should be more visually formal than high school announcements- they can be used for networking purposes when it comes time to begin looking for jobs.

High School Graduation Announcement Etiquette

High school announcements can be a little more playful and casual if you wish. Listing any special achievements is appropriate (editor of the school newspaper, honors, etc.) as is a brief note on where your graduate is headed in the future, including where he or she is going to college if applicable. Including photo of the graduate is customary, but not required.

Examples of Graduation Announcement Wording

Graduation Announcement Ideas

Include Quotes

Many choose to include inspirational quotes on their graduation announcement. This is a great way to convey an attitude or message without too much verbiage to take up space. Here are a few quotes we like- some poignant, some cheeky, but all convey a great message:

“All our dreams can come true … if we have the courage to pursue them.”

— Walt Disney

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

— Mark Twain

“The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary.”

— Vidal Sassoon

Creative Design

Your grad’s announcements should convey their personality along with their accomplishments. Choosing announcements that feature a few creative extras is a good way to do that. Here are a few of our favorites:

Vellum Overlary Cards

Vellum overlay graduation card

Vellum overlays are not only aesthetically pleasing, but they’re a good way to present a photo of your grad with a personalized message.

Graduation Insert Cards

Graduation Insert Cards

If you’d like to include a thank you note, or a (virtual?) party invite with your graduation announcement, an insert card is a beautiful way to do so. It’s nice for your recipient to have the option of keeping only this part of your announcement to save the date or as a keepsake.

Graduation Booklet Cards

graduation booklet card

A booklet announcement is a good option if you’d like to send an announcement as a keepsake. It’s like a separate card for each point on your grad’s announcement with a little more detail. For instance, listed accomplishments will have its own card, as will school information, etc. Each card can include a different photo if you choose to include them.

We hope this guide has provided you with answers to commonly asked questions about graduation announcements and invitations. If you’d like to browse further, check out more attractive and creative graduation announcements ideas from Minted.

A big congratulations to this year’s graduating class!

The Ultimate Guide to Birth Announcement Etiquette & Wording

In today’s article we take a look at birth announcements! When it comes to the birth of a baby it really is a rite of passage. However, impending sleep deprivation means that tradition and etiquette might be the last thing on new parents’ mind.

baby photo announcement card

There are contemporary and established guidelines for announcing a baby, and our goal is to help answer all those questions surrounding birth announcements. So if you are planning an Anne Geddes worthy photo shoot for these photocards, keep reading to find out to whom birth announcements are sent and what information should be included.

What is a Birth Announcement?

Did you think stationery ended after sending wedding thank you cards?

Think again!

The best part of a newborn (besides those cuddles) is making the big announcement that the baby has arrived. What exactly is a birth announcement you might ask? Traditionally they were a notice sent within the first year of the baby’s birth by the baby’s parents to alert family and friends of the newest addition.

Should I send a Birth Announcement?

Never has there been a time in the world that you have so many options for letting family and friends know that a baby has arrived. Traditionally, once the baby is born, the father spreads the exciting news to immediate friends and family via phone. Grandparents might share in the duty too.

You may choose to share this news over social media. Just be sure that the most important people in your life have been informed before the rest of the world is notified.

Having access to speedy social media to blast a message out to everyone might seem a whole lot easier. Consider other approaches first.

The birth of a baby is one of those big life accomplishments and it is nice to take a moment to recognize this milestone. The best way to show off your pride and joy is with a beautiful baby announcement card. We LOVE the selection at our go-to stationer Minted.

Another option that makes for a sweet memento is a newspaper announcement. Okay, maybe a little old-fashioned!

Whatever route you choose to spread the word there is no wrong way – pick whichever option feels right and fits your budget. knows there is an endless diaper bill heading your way. Check out Minted’s budget-savvy birth announcements if the price is part of the equation.

What to include on a birth announcement

When it comes to the actual message on the announcement it is best to keep it short and sweet.

Basic Information to Include on Birth Announcement

  • Parents’ full names (followed by names of baby’s siblings)
  • Baby’s full name
  • Baby’s birth date
  • Baby’s gender (if the name is not clear)
  • Baby’s weight and length

Optional information:

  • Names of the baby’s grandparents
  • Birth location
  • Who delivered the baby (doctor or midwife)
  • A baby website (this could include more information along with photos of the baby)

Basic Information to Include for Twins:

For birth announcements of twin or multiples, include the same information and adjust to include all newborn names.

Basic Information to Include for Adopted child:

If you have adopted a baby or a child who is no longer an infant, you can include the baby’s birth location (especially if a birth abroad), birth date, and adoption date.

What should you NOT say?

We would agree with most etiquette experts when it comes to birth announcements and gifts – don’t include anything!

  • Don’t mention the link to your baby’s amazon gift registry
  • Don’t write “no gifts please”
  • Whatever you do, don’t indicate that you would prefer money in lieu of gifts!
Cute baby newborn on card announcement

Leave it up to the recipient if they wish to send a gift or not. If someone would like to know what you need they will most likely reach out to the grandparents and find out. Let me tell you, people will come out of the woodwork when it comes to baby gifts. Friends of friends (people you have never even met) will knit your baby a beautiful blanket or similar item.

Make sure to have extra thank you cards on hand for any unexpected gifts.

Birth Announcement Tips

When it comes to sending birth announcements, etiquette says you have up to 6 months. However, even though you have 6 months you probably want to send them in a timely manner. Don’t let too much time pass, or the excitement starts to “wear off.”

Try to stick within a 2 – 8 week timeframe after the birth. If over the 3 to 4 month mark, consider sending out a holiday card or family letter instead.

For those planning a professional newborn photo session: keep in mind that in order to capture those adorable newborn sleepy curly poses, most photographers will require you to organize a shoot 5 to 12 days after giving birth. Then, depending on the photographer, it might take another week or two to get the photos back.

If you are really organized you might consider choosing the birth announcement design during your last couple months of pregnancy and organizing family and friend’s addresses. That way when baby does arrive all you need to do is fill in the details and complete the order.

Paper or Electronic Announcements?

The type of announcement you choose to send, be it paper or electronic, is entirely up to you and your budget. Fortunately, both ways are perfectly acceptable. E-cards are without a doubt more cost-effective, however the experience of receiving a paper announcement through the mail (especially a photo card) makes for a great keepsake for your nearest and dearest friends and family members.

To Whom should I send birth announcements?

There are no hard rules that lay out who should or shouldn’t get a birth announcement card. In general, consider the people in your life who you feel most connected to and who may feel hurt if they don’t receive one – immediate family, friends, and anyone who attended your baby shower.

For the rest, well, they can find out via an email or an Instagram post.

Sending birth announcements for the second, third, or fourth baby

Yes! You can absolutely send out an announcement for all babies after the first. Sending one to close family and friends for each baby is just a nice way to proudly announce the new addition to your family. Besides, who doesn’t love getting a picture of an adorable newborn in the mail? And, if social media is your go-to platform, you can always use that as well.

How to use Social Media to share a Birth Announcement

Sharing your big news on platforms like Instagram and Facebook can help save a lot of time. You can reach everyone in your network while lessening the chance of leaving someone out. Not to mention you don’t have to muck around with a bunch of email addresses.

newborn baby photo card

You can either do this by posting an actual picture of the announcement card or by sharing photos with similar details of a paper birth announcement. Of course, going this route it’s okay to be a little more informal with the language. Do keep in mind that this route is a bit less personal.

If you are sharing on social media and you want to be the first one to do so, remind your family/friends not to post any pictures or status updates about the baby until you have done so first!

Can you Combine Thank-You Notes & Birth Announcements?

If someone managed to send a baby gift (without having attended a baby shower) and before you sent out your baby announcements they are especially deserving of a birth announcement and a gold star. You might also consider sending them a baby thank you card with the baby’s photo on the front instead.

If the gift is from a baby shower then you most certainly should send a separate thank you card with a personal message thanking them for celebrating with you and for the specific gift they gave. You can then follow up with a birth announcement card once the baby has arrived.

Will people who receive a birth announcement interpret this as asking for a gift?

Birth announcement are a long standing social tradition. Whomever you send one to will realize that, and likely won’t feel obligated to send a gift.

It is amazing how many people come out of the wood work with gifts for newborn babies — especially if they haven’t participated in a baby shower. Friends of your mother that you have never met will send well wishes with a beautifully knitted blanket they made just for baby. Others will acknowledge your thoughtfulness with a phone call, or a card of their own. They will be thankful that you shared the news with them.

Is it necessary to sign each baby announcement or write a personal note?

The answer thank goodness is NO!

Traditional etiquette says this is not necessary or expected. However, if you would like to go that extra mile and add a brief personalized hand-written note, then more power to you, but don’t feel guilty if you don’t. Everyone understands you are now sleep deprived. You can always save the handwritten notes for thank you cards for baby gifts.

Wedding Planning During Coronavirus – Should you Postpone?

Note: Love & Lavender was compensated for this post by Minted.com

Wedding plans for 2021 and even 2022 are still undoubtedly at risk of being upended due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. This is unchartered territory not only for the many couples with carefully-laid plans to get married this year, but also for the wedding vendors, accommodation providers, airlines, and other stakeholders.

We created this article to help you make a well-informed decision to either postpone or keep your wedding date. Take heart in knowing that your guests and vendors will understand whatever choice you make, and do their best to support you.

In fact, wedding industry leaders are already innovating services & products to help couples navigate towards a happy wedding day. We’ll touch on some of the support and guidance offered by one industry leader (Minted.com) later in this article.

Save The Date Cards

To Postpone or Not To Postpone

We reached out to Shane McMurray from the leading stats website TheWeddingReport for a bit of context around weddings in 2020 and 2021. Based on his survey conducted in June 2021, Shane provided the following analysis:

“After 2023, things should start to normalize, and we will get back to pre-pandemic number of weddings and spending.”

— Shane McMurray, Wedding.report
  • 20% of couples are postponing their 2021 weddings to 2022
  • 15% of couples say they are still cutting guest counts by as much as 27%

So, what’s the best way forward for your wedding plans given these uncertain times we’re living through? The short answer is that there’s no one option that fits every couple. The four main options available are:

  • Stay the course
  • Keep your wedding date, but change elements (e.g., smaller # of guests or ceremony only)
  • Postpone your wedding
  • Cancel your wedding entirely

Choosing the best option is ultimately a decision that rests with you and your beau. Below we’ve outlined some of the key factors to consider.

Foil-Pressed Save The Date Cards

How Soon is Your Wedding?

As of April 2020, the decision may be out of your hands if your wedding is due to take place within the next week or two. That’s because many jurisdictions across North America (and indeed around the world) are under a Shelter in Place or Stay at Home directive. It’s likely that group gatherings over a certain number of people are currently banned in your area.

Furthermore, many officiants have put a pause on in-person services. Couples considering a virtual wedding — where both the officiant and witnesses live stream over video-conferencing — should consult local officials or a legal advisor to determine if a virtual ceremony would be considered legally-binding.

The CDC’s recommendation as of March 15th, 2020 was to cancel any event taking place within the next 8 weeks (i.e. until mid-May). With the situation changing daily, it’s important to check with your country, state/provincial, and municipal governments for the latest updates when making a decision. on staying safe—and keeping your guests safe—during the ever-changing mandates. . With the situation changing daily, it’s important to check with your country, state/provincial, and municipal governments for the latest updates when making a decision.

If your wedding isn’t until later in the summer or fall, you have some time before making a final decision. Importantly, many vendors don’t require final deposits until 30 or 60 days out, which also provides a bit of a reprieve. Keep reading for other factors to keep in mind.

How Big is Your Guest List?

The size of your guest list is worth considering. If you are planning a huge bash with 200 or more of your closest family and friends, you may want to consider postponing your wedding. Even when physical distancing rules are loosened, it’s possible that limitations on large gatherings will still be in place. Or, that people may feel hesitant about attending big events.

On the other hand, if you were planning an intimate celebration you may have more leeway when it comes to holding your current date.

Where is your Wedding Taking Place?

If you were planning a destination wedding, you’ll need to check on travel restrictions and advisories that could affect plans. Again, these are changing on a regular basis, so make sure you are up-to-date with the latest information.

How Many Guests will Travel to your Wedding?

As noted above, there are many travel restrictions in place due to coronavirus. There is no way to predict how long restrictions will remain in effect. If you have a lot of guests traveling to your wedding by air or from out-of-country, be aware that keeping your current wedding date may mean these guests will be unable to attend your wedding.

What About Cost?

Protecting your health and that of your guests has to be a top priority, even if it ends up costing you financially. However, weighing the options between postponing or outright canceling your wedding, consider that most vendors are likely to honor your deposit if you choose to postpone rather than cancel outright.

In the next section, we look more closely at out-of-pocket costs that you may incur if you postpone your wedding. If this is a key factor in your decision, give this section a read before making your decision.

Impact on Mental Health

We’ve looked at some of the practicalities to consider when deciding whether to postpone your wedding, but one important factor is mental health. We are all living through a highly stressful and uncertain time, and how each of us manages this reality will differ.

It’s integral that you understand what course of action will help you maintain a postive mindset and mental health. If you’re not normally a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants type of person, then a wait-and-see approach may simply compound your stress and anxiety.

Sit down with your true love and communicate about what feels right for you both.

Postpone Your Wedding – Part 1

Postponing a wedding isn’t as bad as it initially sounds! In this section, we’ll look at the steps to get you on your way to solidifying a new wedding date.

Save The Date Cards

Step 1 – Review Vendor Contracts

Get a soothing cup of hot tea and find a comfy spot. Start by compiling all of the wedding vendor contracts you’ve signed. Take time to review the cancellation clauses in each contract and determine what costs you may incur by postponing. Budget will likely play a big role in whether or not to postpone your wedding.

Bear in mind that vendors may be open to waiving or adjusting policies, given the extraordinary circumstances. If you’ve had a good relationship with your vendor and they have a solid reputation in the wedding industry, they’ll want to keep both of those intact.

Reciprocity is at play here. Be gentle with them (their livelihood is at risk) and they’ll no doubt be accommodating with you.

TIP: Stay organized by using a spreadsheet to keep track of each vendor’s cancellation policy, the amounts, and other information!

Step 2 – Review Wedding Insurance

If you purchased wedding insurance you may be able to breath a sigh of relief. Then again maybe not. Insurance policies in certain industries have a reputation for including coverage clauses. Now is the time to review the policy and determine if coverage will apply during the coronavirus pandemic. Carefully read through the entire policy, or ask the insurance provide specific questions.

Some instances where your insurance may cover you include:

  • Cases where your absence is involuntary (e.g., you are under a Shelter in Place order);
  • A vendor/officiant cancels, which forces you to change your plans;
  • Cases where the venue is no longer available; or
  • Cases where the functionality of a venue has changed since the booking

Step 3 – Contact Wedding Venue

Unless you’re super flexible on the venue for your postponed wedding, a first task should be to contact your current vendor to discuss alternative arrangements. Determine future availability and make sure each party is clear about the associated costs of postponement. Ask if the venue will honor your deposit and the 2020 rate that you were quoted.

Step 4 – Contact Other Vendors

Once you’ve narrowed down your new date options, it’s time to contact the rest of your vendors to find out if they’re available. As with your venue vendor, you’ll need to discuss costs associated with postponing and come to an agreement on pricing for the new date.

There’s a chance you may not find a date that works for all your vendors, so start by contacting you ‘absolute-musts’ to find out which date(s) they’re available and work from there.

Step 5 – Decide on a New Wedding Date

In addition to vendor availability, you’ll want to connect with close family members, your wedding party and other guests you consider VIPs to determine their availability. Once you’ve complied all the necessary information, go ahead and pick a new wedding date.

Postpone Your Wedding – Part 2

Now that you’ve got your new wedding date confirmed, it’s time to move forward with a new timeline and plan.

Save The Date Cards

Update Guests

It’s important to let your guests know as soon as possible about any changes in your wedding plans so they can adjust their plans too.

Be mindful that some guests may have already booked accommodation or air. Many airlines and accommodation providers have implemented generous cancellation policies in light of COVID-19. Any information you can put together and communicate to guests regarding these cancellation/refund policies will be appreciated.

Our partners at Minted.com have created a great guide on how to communicate changes to your wedding with your guests – definitely worth a read!

Here are some key ways to communicate wedding plan changes to your guests:

1) Wedding Website

If you already have a wedding website, you can create a section on your homepage or an entire dedicated page to communicate updates and pertinent information regarding your new wedding date.

If you haven’t yet created a wedding website, now is the perfect time to do so. Minted offers a wide variety of free wedding websites that are both easy to set up and user-friendly.

2) Email Guests

Email your guests to advise them of changes in plans, as well as direct them to your website for further details. If using a digital address collector for your stationery (like the one Minted.com offers), you should already have all your guests’ emails on hand to send out a mass email.

3) Wedding Postponement Cards

Sending paper stationery for weddings is a time honored tradition. Consider a change-the-date (or swap the date) card to keep guests informed of your new wedding date.

Here’s a couple designs we love that fit many wedding styles:

postponement card
City Love by Poi Velasco
save the new date card
Modern Tide Pools by Erin Deegan

Perhaps you’ve already sent a save-the-date card, or additional stationery isn’t in your wedding buget. By all means, adjust accordingly and try to contact everyone on your guest list by phone or email.

However, if you haven’t yet sent save-the-dates, guests could appreciate a thoughtful postponement card sent through the mail. It may just lift spirits and have you looking forward to your new special date.

Continue Planning Your Wedding from Home

If you’re under a Shelter in Place or Stay at Home order and have spare time, why not use it to up your wedding planning game? Spend a few hours adding bells and whistles (or maybe a video!) to your wedding website, shop online for your bridesmaids’ gifts, create some DIY decor items, or make a giant batch of jam that you can store and gift as wedding favors on the big day.

It’s so important to stay in tune with how you’re feeling during this crisis. Planning a wedding in normal times is stressful enough, so be kind to yourself if you’re feeling overwhelmed, sad, frustrated, angry or any other normal emotion. Take things one day at a time and reach out to friends and family for support – that’s what they are there for!

Keep Your Wedding Date

You’ve weighed the options and decided the best course of action is to keep your current wedding date. With that decision made, here are some tips on how to best move forward.

Stay Informed

Stay up to date on the most current directives from local public health officials and travel restrictions that could impact your guests. Make decisions accordingly.

Be Prepared for Possible Postponement

No matter how well you plan for a 2020 wedding, postponement may happen anyways. “Hope for the best, prepare for the worst” seems like a fitting adage for these uncertain times. It could be hard to accept the reality that you may end up having to postpone your wedding anyways.

Help ease your mind. Take a proactive approach by creating a Plan B in case you need to postpone.

Communicate with Guests

Even if you’re not changing any of your wedding plans, your guests are probably waiting for the latest word on your big day. Post updates on your wedding website and send an email to let guests know that you’re going forward with your original plans.

Check out Minted.com’s excellent guide on communicating with wedding guests during Coronavirus for more suggestions.

Implement Enhanced Hygiene Plan

Social distancing, sanitation stations, and plenty of ventilation. It may not sound sexy, but an enhanced hygiene plan is the way forward if you’re going ahead with your wedding this year. Your guests will feel more comfortable knowing that you’re making extra efforts to keep them safe.

Offer Alternative Ways for Guests to Celebrate

Some guests may not be able to attend your wedding. That doesn’t mean they can’t help you celebrate!

Consider ways to include absentee guests on your big day with ideas like:
