Wording for Bridal Shower Cards
There are plenty of ways to word your bridal shower thank you cards, but the most important thing to remember is they should be as personal as possible. If that seems vague and you want to get specific about it, read on. We’ll help.
First, address your recipient by name. “Dear ______,” is the standard. Then, thank them for the specific bridal shower gift they sent you! If you’re not sure what to say beyond a generic “thanks for the great flatware,” envision how you’ll use it in your married life. Think about the things that make it a great gift for you personally and communicate that.
The goal is to show your appreciation for their thoughtfulness, and that is much more genuine if you write a heartfelt sentiment rather than a cookie-cutter script.
That all depends upon how comfortable you feel with mentioning a specific amount.
Many manners sticklers say that mentioning the amount is more thoughtful because it communicates to your recipient that you remember how much they sent you. We kind of agree with that.
But if “Thanks so much for the $100 gift card to Bed, Bath & Beyond! It’ll definitely be put to good use!” seems awkward to you, just substitute the gift card or cash amount with “Thanks so much for the generous donation to our happily-ever-after fund!”
Or something along those lines. You get the idea.
Etiquette is forgiving in cases of significant life events like an upcoming wedding or the birth of a baby. This is because it’s understood (or should be, anyway) that you’ll be too busy taking care of business to send out cards right away.
Try your best to get the cards in the mail within a month or two after the wedding shower. That said, a late thank you card is better than none at all! If you really can’t swing it, do the best you can.
Unless you have something really personal to say, keep it relatively short. A quick paragraph of three to five sentences ought to be enough to get the sentiment across.
Meh. Unless you’re having a minimal intimate wedding, we’re gonna go with a relatively firm no on this one. If someone’s taken the time to throw a bridal shower for you and you have a registry for it, you should take the time to write a separate thank you to your bridal shower guests. Just our two cents.
Pro bride tip: To minimize your stress levels, don’t wait until after the wedding to send out your bridal shower thank yous. Waiting will just make it more confusing, especially if you have two separate registries.
Another pro bride tip: It’s never too early to shop for your wedding thank you cards, too! Want to see some? We know you do! Check out our post on Bridal Shower Thank You Cards for something a little different.

Now you got this mess dealt with.
May You Be Showered With Love!
If you’re lucky enough to have friends and family who shower you with gifts that help you prepare for married life, congrats! (Also, the getting married part – congrats on that, too!)
Just remember when filling out your bridal shower thank you cards, even if you had a swanky party, keep your wording relatively casual. Nothing says “factory-line cards” like generic words of thanks.
Take your time writing them. You’ll find that if you do, it’ll become more a relaxing ritual of gratitude than just one more wedding chore on your to-do list.
