Couples Wedding Shower Invite Q&A
If you’re new to the wedding shower business, you probably have some questions. Well, keep on readin’ because we have answers on wording, etiquette, and all that jazz to help you pull it off like a pro.
A couples wedding shower isn’t as traditional as a bridal shower, and anyone who wants to can host. In many cases, the couple hosts, but close friends or family members commonly take up the task, too.
As is the case with most other invitations, four to six weeks is considerate to your guests. Especially if you’ll be including registry information and gifts are encouraged!
While many couples’ wedding showers are fairly informal, your wedding shower invitations should include all the information your guests will need to come prepared and on time. You should provide:
-The names of the couple
-The date and time of the party
-The name and address of the venue. If it’s at someone’s residence, that should be indicated along with their name.
-RSVP name and contact information
-Registry information
-Wedding website URL if applicable
-Dress code information if applicable
We also encourage you to mention what kind of shower you’re holding. For instance, if it’s a more formal event at a nice restaurant, you should say so. If it’s an informal gathering inviting your guests to drop by whenever, that’s helpful to know, too.
Right about now, you may be asking: “How am I supposed to word all that on my wedding shower invitations, lady?!? Sheesh!”
To which I say, hang on a second, and I’ll show you!

As you can see, it’s not a one-size-fits-all sort of thing, and these suggestions are just that: suggestions. If you don’t have the space on the invites, or if some of these don’t apply, use your own judgment! We have no doubt you’re a smart cookie.
Why, we’re glad you asked! We’re big fans of party games at L&L (well, parties in general, really, but games are fun…), and we’ve played more than our share of wedding shower games!
Visit our post on wedding shower games for some fun ideas. Some of those listed are designed for a traditional bridal shower, but many are perfectly suited for a couples shower.
If you like your games a little spicier check out the section on highly inappropriate games in our post about baby shower games. Trust us, you can play them at a wedding shower too – just adapt the theme to best fit your event. Your guests will laugh so hard they cry, which is really the sign of a successful shower.
Here’s our guide to bridal shower gifts, food, and games, too. In it, you’ll find more ideas for games. As well as gifts. And food. Bet you didn’t see that coming.
Are you that ahead of the game?! You’ve obviously got it together anyway (or you wouldn’t be reading this), but now you’re just showing off! Check out our bridal shower thank-you cards post and scroll down for wording ideas, etiquette guidelines, and more. Hope it makes your thank-you-card-sending much easier!
The Case for a Couples Shower
Ok, so there’s really no case to be made. Whether you’re throwing one for your favorite couple or you are that couple, there’s a boatload of reasons you should consider having a couples wedding shower!
They’re best kept casual. There’s usually copious amounts of booze involved. It’s a great way to include everyone in the toast to the upcoming nuptials. And it provides a perfect venue for embarrassing each other silly.
All that’s to say – they’re fun.
So get those wedding shower invitations in the mail and get the party started!
