Wedding Ceremony by the Sea

Last Updated: March 18th, 2021/5 CommentsTopic: REAL WEDDINGSby Meredith

We hope you all had a great weekend! Ours were lovely, and this week is looking good already with this beauty to kick it off! Jessica and Denton got married by the water at Deception Pass State Park, which is a seriously gorgeous piece of Washington (our home state). Succulents, old books, and chalkboard details added to the gorgeousness.

As Manchik Photography said: “The high cliffs and vast views of water made for a dreamy wedding location. A sweet backyard reception involving good food, homemade pie, and dancing followed at a historic hotel in nearby Anacortes. It doesn’t get much better than this!”

Now let’s hear from Jessica!

“I spent endless hours scouring and saving ideas I liked. I knew I wanted a vintage feel and I wanted it to be personalized (without making me crazy with projects). My Husband was very picky on the location; we spent months looking for the right place. He grew up in Oak Harbor on Whidbey and we’ve spent a lot of time there with his family. I also went to camp on Whidbey for a few summers when I was younger and always loved it. We actually took a Friday off from work and traveled up north to look at outside venues, we were feeling really unsuccessful. We decided to go spend the night with Denton’s mom, but first we stopped in Anacortes to grad a bite at the Brown Lantern. The Majestic Inn and Spa is right across the street, after dinner we wander there to check it out and it just so happened they had a Saturday open in August – we were really excited and jumped on it right away. We had already looked at Rosario Beach for a wedding, but I was concerned with having a whole shin dig there and bringing EVERYTHING in. So, we came up with the perfect match. Ceremony outside @ Rosario and the reception @ the Majestic!”

Favorite Wedding Moment

“My favorite memory was really probably our whole ceremony. It was short and sweet which was what we wanted. We took a whole day and planned out all the music that we had in the ceremony and at the reception dinner. Denton’s cousin Henry John was our officiant, which was incredible since they grew up together and spent their childhood practically as brothers. We incorporated a letter that Denton’s Nana wrote about her marriage with their Papa (Nana’s husband). Denton and I also wrote our own vows (which we kept to ourselves until the ceremony). It just really turned out perfectly and was so full of love and emotion.”

Wedding Favors

“For my favors my grandma made her seedless raspberry jam – homemade jam is just the best. My family and Denton’s family all helped set-up the reception area (the centerpieces and vases). All the desserts were homemade from my family and his. Pie is my absolute favorite (Tiramisu too!) and Denton isn’t big on cake – both are families are pretty big bakers, so we decided to go with the homemade route – which was just perfect. On the tables we had old books, Denton is an English major and his dad was an English teacher – his family really has a deep respect for literature which is so cool.”

Advice for Future Brides

“My advice would be, once you make a decision on anything stick to it and DON’T keep shopping around. If you start feeling really, really stressed out about a project that you’ve set yourself up for – take another look at it and how it’s incorporated in your day. I ditched a few things because a) I was running out of time b) it was creating more stress than it was worth and c) in the long run it wasn’t a huge piece of the wedding puzzle!”

What a beautiful wedding! I love all the details! Does anyone know where the table number chalkboards were purchased? I would love them for my own wedding! Again, just lovely!

Thank you Aileen and Ellen for posting this on your blog 🙂

Kelsey – I bought the frames at Ikea, they were pretty inexpensive ($0.99/ea). Then I just bought black paper and white pens from the craft store and made the inserts myself! Congrats on your upcoming wedding!
