Unique Destination Wedding Invite Ideas You’ll Flip Over!

Last Updated: November 5th, 2023Topic: WEDDING STATIONERYby Meredith

In today’s article I share my favorite destination wedding invite idea – a minibook, or flipbook as it is also called!

An Intro to the World of Minibook Invites

Back in 2011, one of my co-workers got engaged.  I was thrilled for her and was even more excited to get an invitation to the engagement party to celebrate her wonderful news.

The engagement party in and of itself could have been considered the wedding reception — it was absolutely stunning. Teri and her fiance rented a banquet room at the Vancouver Olympic Village. At the time, the complex was brand spanking new, after being built for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

I remember the event well: They had about 10 different food stations all around the room serving mini portions of everything you could think of … and an open bar.  After attending the most elaborate, generous engagement party that I had even seen, I was in awe and could only imagine what the wedding was going to be like.

Sleek, Modern, and Flipping Awesome

Shortly after, I received a hefty square envelope in the mail, which I suspected was a wedding invitation. I couldn’t wait to open it up and see what was inside.  Sure enough, not only was it a wedding invitation, but it was a flipbook invite to a destination wedding in Cancun Mexico!

I was so impressed with this wedding invitation that I still remember it to this day.

The layout was something I had never seen before with sleek black and white modern font. The way the invitation read like a book was not only unique and memorable, it was beyond perfect for all the details that one must add to a destination wedding invite.

Wedding websites are fine and dandy for adding information around hotel, parking, maps and all that. However, I think a destination wedding invite should provide a ‘wow’ factor and level of excitement beyond a normal invitation.

And that is exactly what Minted’s Minibook Cards accomplish.

The firefly minibook invitation below is a beautiful example from a popular real wedding we featured a couple years ago.

As you will see in the photos that follow, they are a versatile way to show off your (destination) wedding. Flipbook invites can be customized to your exact specifications: choose colors, add information to all sides, and even add photos from your engagement shoot!

These MiniBooks can even double as wedding ceremony programs.

Why Choose a Mini Book Wedding Invite?

Destination wedding invitations need to convey additional information beyond an average wedding invite, such as:

  • How to reach the destination
  • Accommodation options
  • When to book hotels and flights
  • What activities are available to see and do
  • and more

These invitations in particular allow you to add all the above information in a non-cluttered way, without spending more money through sending extra enclosure cards.

Trust me,your guests are going to remember these neat booklets. I know I still remember receiving my friend’s wedding invitation, and am still talking about them six years later! Silly perhaps, but they truly did make an impression on me.

Here are a few more Minibook examples that I love …
