Berry Hill Mansion Wedding with Paper Cranes

Have you ever seen a wedding with origami paper cranes?  I am not sure if the bride and groom in today’s wedding had a thousand paper cranes, but they definitely had a few scattered around each reception table and instead of rice during the wedding ceremony, they let their guests throw the cranes in the air.

The 1000 Japanese origami cranes tradition was usually given as a wedding gift by the bride’s father.  This was to symbolize and wish the newlywed couple a thousand years of happiness and prosperity. If you like this tradition and would like to incorporate it within your own wedding day, you better inform your father that he has work to do!

Remarks from the bride: “The location was picked originally due to constraints on venues in Lexington. However, the first time we went to look at it I learned that my grandmother worked in the mansion for many years when she worked as a journalist for the state. October 18th also happened to be the anniversary of my paternal grandparents. Berry Hill Mansion is a beautiful home that incorporates the ability to have a lot of guests indoors, but allowed us to have games and dancing outside.”

“We were both very much looking forward to the being married part. We have been together for 4.5 years and have lived together for 3, so we were excited to make it official! I really wanted to have a few minutes to ourselves that day, so we ended up doing a first look.  We are also excited to have a lot of family and friends from far away with us to celebrate. Some of my close friends from study abroad came, and some of my husbands close friends from high school who have moved away were able to make it as well.”

“I accidentally turned the wedding into a 1920s themed day. I didn’t mean to, but that is what happened. The venue is very Great Gatsby, so I designed the invites to look similar.   Then my mother bought the most beautiful floor length beaded gown (it might be prettier than my wedding dress and I am 100% OK with that. I loved it.). I wanted to steer away from a typical fall wedding (with the oranges/yellows/reds/pumpkins, etcetera), so we are doing colors of gold, purple, and green. I wanted the day to be about us and our families, which is why we will have our siblings in the wedding. We are both very close with our siblings.”
