About This Wedding
What is your favorite thing about the venue? “Before moving to Sweden, we lived in Old City right near Christ Church. We attended services here and really connected to the openness and warmth of the community. “When we became engaged, we knew we wanted to come back to Philadelphia to get married at Christ Church. We also loved the history of Christ Church as revolutionary leaders such as George Washington, John Adams and Ben Franklin attended services there. “We continued the historic theme in choosing our reception location — The Powel House. This historic home in Philadelphia was the location of many revolutionary parties, in which the Washington’s, Adam’s and Marquis de Lafayette attended. “The connection to the founder of our college was so unique and we loved the outdoor garden, thus it was an easy decision to hold our reception here. What was the theme of the wedding, and how would you describe the day? “We had an intimate wedding of 30 people and are thrilled we decided to keep the numbers low. “Having lived abroad for the last 2 years, we were so thankful to be surrounded by our loved ones and to be able to spend quality time with each of them on our wedding day. While we didn’t necessarily have a theme, the experience we wanted our guests to have was relaxed and elegant. “Our invitations and decor were inspired by the Powel House garden and our love of Sweden. Therefore, we incorporated lots of greens and the blue and yellow colors of the Swedish flag. “We adored how Belovely picked up these accents in our floral arrangements. We also incorporated other aspects from our life in Sweden, with a Dala horse at our welcome table and glass milk bottles that held our table florals.” What will you remember most about your wedding day? “One of my most favorite parts of the day was just after our first look. I showed Jeff a bracelet I was wearing, which was his late mother’s. “I had borrowed the bracelet from his Dad, but had no idea that Jeff had actually purchased the item for his mom. When Jeff saw the bracelet, after many years, he was at first confused thinking he’d bought it for me. I informed him that while he had purchased it, he had not bought it for me. “Then, it clicked. It was a very emotional moment for both of us as it was so important to feel her presence on our day. “We also LOVED having Weckery’s Ice Cream as our dessert. This company is one of our favorites in Philly and with neither of us as big cake lovers, we knew this would add a unique, local flair to our wedding dessert. Our guests loved the seasonal flavors and mini ice cream sandwiches.”Gallery
