It goes without saying that I am a sucker for a well done DIY wedding. We all know DIY weddings are not the easiest challenge to take on, especially when you are a bride with a zillion other things on her mind. The bride in today’s post took on that challenge a year out from her wedding date and hit a home run with well thought out decor details that go together perfectly. A lot of time and effort went into this wedding at Dock 580 in Columbus, Ohio. The result is a classy and fabulous affair with fun and personal touches.
Where did you get your inspiration?
Bride’s Comments: “From moment we got engaged, we knew that we wanted a space that had an urban and rustic feel. Dock 580 was the perfect venue for us and it was love at first sight. The exposed brick was the perfect backdrops for our refined vintage theme. Being crafty and artistic myself, I knew I wanted to create most of the decor for our wedding, so I went a bit pinterest crazy like most brides and I started to put decor ideas together. I wanted a fun and laid back wedding that was different from most.”
Tell us about your Decor
“I created the tissue paper pom poms, ombre petals aisle runner and the paper flower backdrops. It was a year long process but it was all worth it in the end. For the center pieces, I wanted to include elements that were special to both of the bride and groom’s families. Jason’s grandmother and my father are both librarians and reading was big part of growing up, so we chose the vintage books to represent that part of our lives. Jason’s family also raised horses and he has a tradition of going to the Kentucky Derby with his best man and friends every year, so we chose the horses to represent that.”
Wedding Budget Breakdown
“Jason and I want to keep the budget low (approximately $20K), so we decided to have a smaller intimate wedding/reception and only invite our closest friends and families. To save money, I opted to make a lot of the decor myself. The items we choose to spurge on were flowers, food and photography. Also choosing to have a wedding planner to take care everything 10 days before the wedding relieved a lot of my stress. This also allowed me to spend more time with my bridal party and family who came in from out of town.”
