13 Creative Activity Ideas to Entertain Wedding Guests
Making the guest list to a wedding is a great honor. Although the day should be about the bride and groom, it is important to recognize guests and make the day just as unique and fun for them.
Over the past few years of running Love and Lavender, I have seen many awesome ideas that allow your wedding to be fun for every age group. Whether you are looking to entertain for the time between the ceremony and reception, or throughout the evening.
Here are my top creative ideas for how to entertain wedding guests at your wedding.
1. Wedding Food Cart Mania
Food trucks have taken over most North American city streets, and they are slowly taking over wedding menus as well. There are so many different and amazing food truck options. It is no wonder couples love to incorporate this scrumptious foodie option. (Photos 1 , 2)
2. I Scream, You Scream, We all Scream for Ice Cream!
There is a reason this saying exists and that is because everyone loves ice cream – especially on a hot summer day! Stay away from heavy chocolate cakes (or have both) and offer your guests some refreshing ice cream treats. (Photos 1, 2, 3, 4)
3. Wedding Ceremony Program Fans
If you are having an outdoor summer wedding your guests are bound to get hot, unless there is a cool summer breeze. Let them fan themselves with a two-in-one ceremony program that can be used as a fan. If you’re feeling crafty, these can easily be made as a DIY project.
4. Wedding Confetti
Most venues don’t allow rice to be thrown anymore but many will allow biodegradable confetti. A cute alternative to rose petals is colorful sparkly pom poms. Captured by Sincerely Liz Photography.
5. Carnival Games
Wedding guests will be family and friends that may not have met each other before. Once dinner and speeches are done, or in-between the ceremony and reception, give people some fun activities that are interactive and inclusive. This way your guests can mingle with others and feel more comfortable approaching people they may not know.
6. Hanky for the Wedding Ceremony Tears
I come from a long line of crying – especially when we attend weddings. So, I love and can totally relate to this added touch for the ceremony. Give your sappier guests a pack of wedding tissues or a hanky so they can wipe away their happy tears and not look like a raccoon after you have finished saying your vows.
7. Spread the Love, Plant Some Seeds or Trees
A nice touch to an eco-friendly wedding is to give away something meaningful like a tree, seeds, or succulents as favors. You can also use them in lieu of a table seating chart by putting the guest’s name and table number on the planter.
8. Mama Mia We Are Making Pizza
Your guests are going to flip over this. Whether it’s part of the main course or a late night snack after many hours of dancing, making your own pizza is a fun way to meet everyone’s dietary needs.
9. Wedding Bartending 101
Let your guests create their own fruity cocktail and add a gorgeous splash of color.
10. Music Request Hot Line
Even with a DJ, creating a 3 hour long playlist that everyone likes can be difficult. A great way to include different tastes in music is to ask your guests to request a song and artist on their RSVP. Alternatively, if you have a wedding website then create a page for music requests.
#11. Wedding Guest Sunglasses
Guests are bound to forget to bring sunglasses, especially if they are dressing up and going to a venue that they have never been before. Help them out by providing sunglasses. Whether they need them or not, it is a sweet gesture that they will appreciate.
12. Get a Cartoonist
Nothing is more fun than having a caricature of yourself to remember your wedding day. This can be a fun and entertaining activity for your guests to participate and laugh about.
13. Personal Glass
Have you ever been to a wedding or a party where you misplaced your glass, confused it with someone else’s, or the service staff is really good and cleans it up faster than your can take your next sip? It can be frustrating and wasteful. Avoid this hassle by giving everyone their own personalized cup or heart-shaped tag that they can hold onto all night long without misplacing it.
