Milk and Cookies Styled Wedding – Part 1

Last Updated: December 14th, 2023/36 Commentsby Meredith

We are super excited to share today’s post with you, not just because it totally rocks, but because we are the ones behind it! (Ellen and her husband Josh are the fabulous models).

It’s our first styled shoot, so we wanted to do something we had never seen before. We settled on a theme of Milk and Cookies, and we put almost everything together ourselves – from the stationery and flowers, to the props, cake, and cake topper.  It was so much fun to plan every detail!

Jonda Spurbeck Photography found the gorgeous alfafa field in the countryside of Eastern Washington, brought hay bales and windowpanes, and baked some of the cookies. Their photography captured everything perfectly!

For the guestbook table we make a sign with Josh and Ellen’s  “recipe for love” detailing the highlights of how they got together in recipe form. We had cards for guest to write their own “recipes for love” and a recipe fox for them to file it away in. We’ll be posting downloads for the recipe cards later.

For favors we filled milk bottles with layers of ingredients for chocolate chip oatmeal cookies. We designed the labels for the from and back that had the recipe. We had them stacked in a wooden crate that Aileen’s husband made.

For the table, we decided to do a table runner that played off of the ruffles in Ellen’s dress, so we sewed strips of ivory fabric together (while Ellen was getting her hair done–yay for multi-tasking!) The centerpieces were a collection of items from Anthropologie, Pottery Barn, thrift stores, antique shops, and things we already owned. For the seating, we went with hay bales to play off the country theme (plus, cows eat hay and milk comes from cows…connection?? We decided yes!)

We made the napkins with a variety of patterned fabrics and tied heart-shaped cookie cutters around them with twine.

The plates were from Anthropologie, with menus on top that we made out of cedar shingles with simple paper menus nailed into them.

We are obsessed with ringshots!

To keep with the country theme, we had Ellen’s mom braid her hair…just like when she was in second grade! 🙂 We loved how it turned out.

We used kale for Ellen’s bouquet, which was one of our favorite details. It was so cheap and easy too–it took us all of 5 minutes to make, and only cost $8! We used ranunculus, dahlias, and blue thistle for the rest of the flowers throughout the shoot.

The boutonniere was made of ranunculus, blue thistle, and a kale leaf wrapped with burlap.

La Belle Elaine’s, a Seattle bridal shop, contributed the gorgeous Jim Hjelm dress. They were amazing to work with and had a fabulous selection of dresses for us to choose from! Mai of Shop Ruche donated a pair of kick-ass boots and Krystle of Feathers and Frills donated the lovely hair flower.
