Mexi-Italian Wedding in Santa Barbara

Last Updated: March 13th, 2021/3 CommentsTopic: REAL WEDDINGSby Meredith

Dee and Drew put together a fabulous Mexi-Italian wedding that I LOVED! They put so many special details into their day.

Here is what the bride had to say about her wedding:

“We saw our wedding as an opportunity to incorporate some of our customs and heritage and the things we love (good music, great food, delicious drinks, and fun activities with friends and family) against the gorgeous backdrop of the Santa Barbara Historical Museum on the 15th anniversary of the first time we kissed!”

“The luchador themed items: masks for the groomsmen, figurines and the groom and groomsmens’ socks were to pay homage to my individual heritage, the Montero family, and my grandfather, Francisco Montero, ‘El Tigre del Ring,’ who was a luchador in Mexico during the golden era of lucha libre.

“The Loteria (Mexican bingo that I loved playing with my family growing up)-themed seating chart/table names. They were all very simple things with clean lines, mostly DIY, but visually very striking and impactful all set against the stark, tan/natural background of the venue.

“Visually, I was absolutely enamored with our venue, The SBHM and the stark contrast of the green succulents to the neutral-toned and sparse, rustic adobe/Spanish architecture. So I tried to weave in things that visually would have an impact and spoke to my Spanish/Mexican heritage but were, in fact,  also simple themselves: the succulents in planter boxes and glass hurricanes, the white wedding Papel Picado with streamers attached (an idea we saw in Martha Stewart magazine) in coral (our wedding color) and tan (the color of the adobes and ground at the venue), the orange and tan crepe paper flowers my grandma handmade to place at the ends of the rows of seats for the ceremony.”

Advice for Future Bride’s

  • Get visual and tangible – Create an inspiration board. Pinterest makes it really easy these days to create a virtual one and to
  • Be collaborative – How? Invite friends whose style you love and trust to help you pin and brainstorm ideas. Ask for help. It really does take a village to make your big day happen! Get a photo sharing app for the day of! We used Wedding Snap. Our guests downloaded it to their smart phones at the wedding and were able to share all the photos with us and other guests on the app’s site. Having an easy way to share photos has given me and my family the instant gratification of having photos of the big day while we waited for our wedding photographers to send us the official wedding photos.
  • Sweat the small stuff –  People always say, ‘don’t sweat the small stuff,’ and I disagree because the devil is in the details and the details make a difference. At the end of the day, don’t lose sight of the big picture, which is that you’re marrying the love of your life and it’s going to be an amazing celebration.
  • Be present. Just take a deep breath, and get ready to party!
