A Love Letter To Our Girls Out There – Big, Small, And Everything In-Between
Honestly, I wish we didn’t even have to include a section like this, but I think we do.
Despite the encouraging progress we’re making, most women I know are still looking for tricks to hide their bodies to make them look more like what our society thinks is attractive. And despite my better judgment, I’m no exception to the trap.
I don’t know why it’s so hard to reprogram our self-talk and learn to love ourselves unconditionally right out of the gate, but it is. Psychologists and celebrities are working on that as we speak.
Here are a few things I do know:
1. YOU LOOK HOT, you sexy beast!
Sorry for the yelling, but making sure you feel like the siren of love that you are on your wedding night is important to me.
Take it from one who’s been around the self-conscious block too many times: you’re wasting your time and forfeiting too many nights of outstanding sex if you don’t love your body right now. As is.
To be clear, you don’t need your partner (or anyone else for that matter) to validate your own sexiness on your wedding night, but many of us still feel like we do. So that’s what I’m going to speak to now…
Even if you don’t love your body right now, as is, your new spouse does.
If I’d trusted mine from the beginning when he tried to tell me that a thousand times, we wouldn’t have left the bedroom for weeks. Also, we’d probably have LOTS more kids than we do now, but that’s a point for later on.
So at the risk of sounding waaay too 1950s for my own good, don’t question it when they tell you they really, really want to do naughty things to you. And don’t make yourself (or them) feel sad on a night that should be anything but because you don’t feel good about yourself. It just isn’t necessary.
Bask in the worship, sister. Because when you emerge in that lingerie, mark my words – they will worship you. You are sexy. Love is sexy. Period.
2. Dress for yourself.
Confidence. It’s nature’s most foolproof aphrodisiac. Wearing lingerie that makes you feel gorgeous is non-negotiable. If it doesn’t turn you on when you slip it on – keep looking.
A quick note: If your partner wants you to wear something “for them” that you really aren’t into, you should gently explain that it isn’t in your best interest (or theirs, for that matter).
