Their Story

You may have already seen this sweet Amelie-inspired styled shoot on the fabulous Nonpareil magazine, but it’s worth seeing again! We just watched Amelie the other night, so we couldn’t resist. The photography is by Meg Perotti, and the styling is by Yelena Johnson of The Stylish Soiree. They took inspiration from how Amelie enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, and the overall playfulness of the movie, to create something truly inspiring and lovely!

Amelie Wedding Inspiration at Sand Rock Farm

Since Amelie always dressed simply and youthfully, they dressed the model in a short, vintage style dress with red accents and adorable red T-strap shoes. Her makeup and hair, by Symmetry Beauty, looked natural and understated. The bouquet was simply to die for! The tablescape included oak farmhouse chairs, red tulips in simple glass vases, and (our favorite detail!) antique coffee and sugar tins filled with fresh French bread. The venue, Sand Rock Farm, was the perfect setting. The ivy on the wall behind the table is gorgeous!

Venue Snapshot: Sand Rock Farm

A fusion of California country style and old world European charm, the Sand Rock Farm Bed & Breakfast is nestled in a quaint area of Monterey Bay. As a wedding venue Sand Rock Farm can accommodate up to 250 guests on the ten acre property surrounded by trees, endless gardens, meadows and fountains. I would love to explore the Redwood Grove, indoor Historic Carriage Barn, or the 1885 Barrel Aging Cellar. We love the quirky and playful touches, like this milkmaid butter dish (sold out at Anthropologie) filled with meringues! Little bowls of raspberries at each place setting allowed for some classic Amelie shots–eating raspberries off her fingers. The paper goods were created by the talented Little Miss Press. We love the invitations, which read, “Voulez-vous…me recontrar?” meaning “Will you meet me?” (from a scene in the movie) Little Miss Press also designed the coordinating menus, with hand-calligraphed bellybands that doubled as placecards. How much do you love those dusty miller leaves under the menu and the French country-style plates? So lovely! The guestbook naturally consisted of photobooth strips to play off the lost photobooth album in the movie. Last but not least, the favor table was inspired by a busy Parisian bench, and included red old-fashioned sodas and striped paper straws, meringues, and a mini croquemboque (the traditional French wedding cake). It was decorated with a clock, black and white French postcards, and wire Eiffel Tower replicas. Do you recognize the adorable striped straws that we featured yesterday? Each soda had a heart cutout tied to it with red ribbon, that was labeled with the guest’s name. We love the model’s red nails! We hope you enjoyed this shoot as much as we did! [...] I know that this shoot has cropped up in a couple of places already, but I thought it would be appropriate to share it one more time for Bastille Day. Like many of you, Amelie was one of my favorite films in college. I would marathon play it during finals. The stunning beauty and cinematography helped relax me and make me happy.  Nonpareil Magazine first published this delightful Amelie-inspired concept shoot that was then picked up by Elizabeth Anne Designs and Love and Lavender. Crystal--the flowers look (to our untrained eye) like peonies or garden roses. The leaves look like lambs ear. Hope that helps! We will let you know if we find out for sure.

SOOOOOOO cute, chic and FRENCH! (heavy accent) lol All that's missing is the macarons parisienne, but I don't think you needed them at all! Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Red was my favorite color for years and years and I'm so glad to welcome it back into my eyesight! Lovely!
