Their Story

We have a sweet spot for country weddings, so when we saw this we had to share it with you all! Rebecca and Jonathan’s wedding was an intimate day, with a laid-back atmosphere captured by the uber-talented Heather Saunders.

Comments from the Bride: “We were married on my mother’s 53-acre farm, just north of Ann Arbor, Mich. My father and brothers built the pergola used for the ceremony.

“Vytautus Malesh, a close friend of ours, wrote and performed our ceremony. The book he kept the script in is an original copy of J. R. R. Tolkien’s ‘The Silmarillion.’

“I handmade all of the boutonnieres out of silk ribbon and rick-rack; I also made floral headbands for the flower girls using the same ribbon. My bridesmaids and I all made our own bouquets out of flowers we picked in the fields and gardens at the farm. My bridesmaids also helped me make all the fabric peony centerpieces and the table runners. I couldn’t have done it without them, and the process of creating was just as much fun as seeing it all come together on the actual wedding day!”

The design on her dress paired with the hair flower is to die for!

From Rebecca: “I worked directly with Gena, a milliner based in Wyandotte, Mich., to create both my bridal headpiece and a top hat for my Mad Hatter shower. It was such an amazing experience. The salon of her Victorian home is filled with incredible hats, and she serves you tea while picking the perfect elements from a treasure trove of materials and embellishments sourced from all over the world.”

Love how they had feathers throughout their day…even on the bride’s shoes!

Confession from the Bride: “I am obsessed with shoes, and I actually bought my shoes before the dress! Birds were a big part of our theme, and there was a pair in my size on sale for 70 percent off. I just couldn’t pass up the deal, so I ordered them, figuring I would wear them for something if they didn’t end up working out for the wedding. I took them gown shopping, and when I tried them on with the Vera Wang gown, everything just came together so perfectly.”

Love the hay bale seats!

We love when couples get creative with window panes!

*Edit: We’re adding in the vendor info (from the bride) to help those of you who were as inspired by this wedding as we were! Thanks so much Rebecca! Your wedding was truly beautiful.*
