Wedding Story
Interview with the Bride
How did the proposal happen?
“It happened one early Sunday morning in June. Neither of us can keep secrets from each other so the only way he knew he could actually surprise me without me catching on would be first thing in the morning. On my one day off that week, Errik woke me up at about 7am … I was not thrilled to say the least.
“He had already slipped the ring on my finger while I was asleep, and he slowly starting nudging me to wake up. I kept ignoring him and he finally said babe look at me, I rolled over and all grouchy asked what do you want! He said, ‘you know I love you, you mean the world to me, and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?’
“I asked if he was serious, and said yes.”
What was the vision for your wedding?
“Let’s say my vision started when I was about 14 years old and has grown from there; an intimate backyard fall fairy tale is what I was looking for.
“I wanted a neutral earth toned themed wedding while the event space and landscape held it’s own simplistic beauty with flowers everywhere. I wanted the flowers to be so vibrant and colorful that they would be the key statement pieces at our wedding.
“I have always loved purple and we both wanted our wedding to be very us, simplistic natural beauty with touches of what we both love. You could sum up or colors and gray and purple, but those were just accent pieces to help tie everything together.
Why did you choose your wedding venue?
“We chose our venue because of the space, but mainly because of the food. That was our biggest wish for our wedding. We wanted local fresh food that we would buy for our family. Our meats were cooked over a custom fire pit that acted as an oven. My husband is a chef so the food was very important to us and Errik and the chef would see each other at the local farmers markets every week. We knew we were getting exactly what we wanted because we saw them in action. Our venue shops local, uses local meats, and designs your menu based on what is in season so you get the freshest food possible.
“We wanted an outdoor venue that everyone could be a part of, we had yard games, a strolling cocktail hour, and a wine service. It was absolutely perfect.”
Describe the flowers used for floral arrangements
“I LOVE FLOWERS! We have the most amazing arrangements that were absolutely perfect! The bouquets had magical and colorful late summer designs featuring sunflowers, wildflowers, terracotta roses, pods, berries, and fresh herbs throughout.
“We had the boutonnieres with pods, berries and fresh herbs as well.
“Our aisle decor consisted of varied heights of woodland stumps topped with a light velvet moss, freesia, eucalyptus leaves and berries; creating an inviting path for our aisle potpourri of early autumn fall blossoms including black eyed susans, dahlias, zinnas, roses and so much more.
“We had a exquisite natural wood canopy which was graced in a bountiful floral garland with bay laurel, eucalyptus, sunflowers and hydrangeas which aided in our intimate backyard/garden theme. Throughout the venue we had weathered terracotta pots filled with fresh herbs that smelled divine along with whimsical wildflowers and enchanting sunflowers along with so many other accent floral pieces.”
Describe the ceremony
“We got to marry each other and that was wonderful, but it wouldn’t have been as special as it was without our pastor. He really got to know us and how we felt about each other. He wanted our wedding to be as personal as possible, and it was. He captured what we loved about each other without the other knowing so we were surprised during or ceremony when I got to hear what my husband loved most about me, how he knew I was the one, and what made him fall in love with me.
“I feel like some weddings are just typical, they go through the motions, but we got to add personal touches through out. We both love to garden and the outdoors, so we we planted a unity tree at our ceremony that we now have in our yard and see everyday. It reminds us that we need to love and nurture each other. We can’t just get married and call it good we have to take care of our marriage and feed it for years to come.”
Describe the reception
“Our reception was wonderful, filled with all the love and support of our family and friends who were able to make it to our special day. Our DJ was absolutely phenomenal! We were able to meet with him to review song choices which we both think is key to a great reception. As long as there is music playing that everyone knows and loves especially the bride and groom then you are golden.
“Our DJ was really able to pick out songs for us just after talking with us and giving him some titles and artists we loved. I also think your first dance songs really set the tone for your wedding. You really get to capture the love between the bride and groom and see who they are as husband and wife with their song choice. We had a classic rock song that couldn’t have described us better.
“I think the best part of our reception was when Melissa said it was time to cut the cake, but everyone was already dancing and having a blast, we all decided to do it with just the bride and groom. It was such a fun romantic moment that was just the two of us with everyone partying in the background. It was such a fun intimate moment that I wouldn’t have changed for the world.”
What was the inspiration of your wedding cake?
“Errik hates frosting and I love everything about cake. I loved the naked cake look. We had ours made with fresh homemade whipped cream and local jam with fresh seasonal fruit. It was the perfect mix of both Errik and I, and it went extremely well with our wedding theme and venue. We didn’t do it because it was popular or the newest thing, we picked a naked caked because it was who we are.”
Describe the favors for guests
“We gave out local flavored honey – cherry and blueberry. We wanted something that was fall related but nothing over the top or gifts nobody would take. There were small enough to fit in a pocket yet still delicious and memorable.”
