Wedding Story & Gallery

Creative couples are the best couples for a number of reasons. They have great stories, great ideas, and great advice for others. Sonia and Daisuke are not an exception. These two have so many unique things about themselves individually as well as their story together.

To begin, they met at the University of British Columbia in 2010 while they were both studying there. They were both involved in the same program on campus and got to know each other. They worked for a club called “International Student Development” which was a program that helped new international students get accustomed to campus and life in Vancouver and Canada, in general, to help them adjust which is where Sonia was working. Daisuke was a volunteer for this program and was in charge of planning and organizing activities for the students to participate in once a month. They got to know each other through this program and then outside the program as well. They were friends for an entire year before they started dating and it wasn’t until after school ended and Daisuke graduated that they were an official couple.

The proposal is easily one of the most creative and exceptional stories we have ever heard. Daisuke took her back to the place where they had their first date; Granville Island on the grassy spot facing the creek. This location wasn’t out of the ordinary because they visit often since it’s such a special place, so a surprise here was perfect. With some help from his friends, he planned the proposal with a secret photographer and all. He got down on one knee, they captured the moment in photographs, but wait there’s more! He also had a surprise engagement party planned at a restaurant downtown to celebrate that special night.

Sonia was so surprised and happy with the engagement that she decided to make it even more special. She wanted to break the mold of conventional proposals and planned a “grand gesture” of love for him too! Her reverse proposal was planned for Lighthouse Park. It’s one of their favorite hiking and walking areas. She also recruited help from friends who helped hang some pictures from the last six years together at the final spot of the walk. They made it to the final stop, laughed and smiled at the pictures, and then she presented him with an engagement watch!

These two were so creative and clever with their Cherry Blossom Engagement  and then their engagement session ideas. We have photographed many beautiful cherry blossom engagement sessions in Vancouver. But this one was very unique! They really wanted an engagement session that was full Japanese style, and it was so memorable. Sonia and Daisuke rented kimonos and Japanese umbrellas and planned the session around the cherry blossom trees blooming season. As a location for this Cherry Blossom Engagement Photos Vancouver we chose Queen Elizabeth Park. Needless to say, they were the center of attention at the park during their shoot, and it was an honor to help make their dreams come true. We are so excited for their wedding in June!
