Wedding Story
Photographer’s Comments: “Jaykaye and Stephen were the couple every vendor dreams of! They were so incredibly sweet individually, but together they just radiate love.
“I’ll never forget when Stephen gave Jaykaye a journal he had been writing in since he proposed. A year and a half of journal entries, literally the sweetest gift I have ever seen.
“They had so many momentos from their families, it was incredible. Not to mention they had quite a few guests, but still the entire day felt so intimate.”
Bridal Q & A
Q1: Tell us about your wedding!
“Our relationship started in the fall and it was hard to imagine getting married any other season. We have family friends who live in the White Mountains and that’s a place that we have come to love. We wanted to have a rustic wedding in the White Mountains. We chose the Oasis color for the bridesmaids dresses and the groomsmens ties because we felt that it was a beautiful combination of our two favorite colors, blue and green.”
Q2: Let’s talk wedding decor
“The decor for the wedding was all DIY:
- We borrowed mason jars from Stephen’s mom and made multiple trips to Michael’s and the Dollar Store.
- We got burlap and lace table runners.
- We used mason jars as our centerpieces. and filled the jars with glass beads. Then hot glued burlap and lace ribbon around the jars.
- We even found teal ribbon to include around the jars, which matched our color scheme perfectly.
- Additionally, we used small easels for the table numbers.
“We had so much love and support from family and friends throughout the whole process of creating our decorations. We even had a crafting day with Stephen’s mom and one of our bridesmaids, Shayne. We also had so much support from family and friends setting up the barn and we couldn’t have done it without everyone.”
Q3: What were the florals like in your wedding?
“The florals that we used were sunflowers. They are my favorite flower and they went well with the overall theme of our rustic barn wedding. We used orange and white baby pumpkins for our centerpieces instead of flowers because we wanted it to tie into the fall theme.”
Q4: Did you personalize the day in any way?
“We loved everything about our wedding. Some of our favorite parts of our wedding were the people, the location, and the intimacy of our ceremony and reception. The vendors that we hired for the day were absolutely amazing!”
Q5: Let’s talk fashion
“My dress was perfect it was one of the last ones that I tried on. It had straps, a train, a few buttons on the back, and some lovely beading. For my shoes, I wore white Toms with flowers that almost looked like sunflowers. For jewelry, I wore my mom’s pearl earrings and Stephen’s grandmother’s pearl necklace. Stephen also got me a six pence piece, which is a tradition from his Irish grandmother. Stephen wore a blue suit and a champagne colored tie. He also had a handkerchief that his great grandmother had knit in his pocket, and a good luck charm that his parents had given him on his first day of middle school.”
Q6: How did you meet?
“We met senior year at UConn. For the proposal, Stephen had made dinner reservations at Bacco in the North End. He came over to my apartment to pick me up before we went to dinner and was wearing a blazer in the middle of July. I told him that he should take his blazer off, but he refused because he was hiding the ring in his pocket. When we left my apartment, I saw that there was a note on my car, but I walked right past it. Stephen urged me to stop and read it. We always used to leave each other notes on our cars. I stopped and read the sweet note and then suggested to Stephen that he leave his blazer in my car because it was too hot to wear it. He agreed and as I was opening the front door of my car, he got down on one knee in the middle of Litchfield Street and asked me to marry him.”
Q7: What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
“The most special moment of our wedding day was our wedding ceremony.”
Q8: Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
“Have fun and keep it personal!”
