Overall theme for the ceremony and reception
“We didn’t pick a certain color or theme, we just went with blush and nude tones throughout to give off a classy but relaxed vibe. To us the wedding was about making everyone as comfortable as possible and incorporating some things that John and I love about Austin. We really just wanted to party and celebrate with friends and family. Catering with a Twist took our menu to the next level. We let the ladies have some creative freedom and they really made it unique, from adding Frito pies to the record sushi stand.”
Any challenges you faced planning your wedding?
“We gave ourselves plenty of time to plan and kept a weekly to-do lists. Overall. the planning went pretty smooth. The only challenge was that we both are really busy, so finding time to get things done was the struggle.”
Any tips to share with future brides?
- Give yourself plenty of time and stay organized. Having time made all the difference in the world. We finalized even the small details over a month out and didn’t hit any “oh crap” moments (well not too hard, anyways).
- Keep positive people around you. I was lucky enough to have a groom that pushed me to stay on track and a twin sister and mother-in-law that picked up all the slack for the wedding planning. It was great having people I could count on, who were able to help me strike off items on my to-do list.
- The tip I was given 100 times and really tried to follow, was just enjoy the day! Don’t rush through the day and think about what you’ve got to next or where you need to be. Really take some time to breath in every moment from getting your hair and make up done to driving from place to place. That made a huge difference.
Bridal Party Attire
- My bridesmaids all picked their own dress from Rent The Runway. I gave them about 70 choices, all in nude, light pink and gold color scheme. This was my one opportunity to really spoil my friends and make them feel important, which is something I personally love doing. So they all got their hair and makeup done at Avant salon to go with their amazing designer gowns. Rent The Runway was absolutely fabulous. They went as far as hand writing us a congratulations note. It was an awesome alternative to spending a lot of money on a dress you’ll only wear once.
- My dress was a custom Matthew Christopher gown. I fell in love with his Sofia gown at Nordstrom Wedding Suite in San Antonio, but I wasn’t in love with the trumpet shape on my body, so he changed the gown into an A-Line and the fit was perfection.
- Also our groomsmen and ushers wore mismatched suits of their choice as long as they were gray. John and his groomsmen also had matching shirts, ties and tie bars.
How many guests were invited and what was the final count?
We invited around 180 family and friends and 130 guests attended. Of course it was difficult. There is always going to be people you feel bad about not inviting and then the whole “should co-workers be invited?” We made it pretty simple and kept to the rule that we both had to know the person invited, at the very least have met them before, with few exceptions.
My mother-in-law gave me the best advice for this: “Invite people from your future, not your past.” Ultimately, you want the people that will support your marriage.
Did you stay within your wedding budget?
- We never set a concrete budget. We just made sure to take short cuts where we could and put the money into the things that were really important to us.
- We lucked out because John (groom) is a local DJ, so he has great connections in the music world. One of my Bridesmaid’s is a graphic designer so she created all of our invites for the showers and he wedding. After she made the paper invitation, John and I DIY’ed the invitations and the envelopes.
- We reused all of our vases and frames for the wedding that were used for the shower and rehearsal dinner. We also had Posey Events reuse our flowers from the rehearsal dinner and incorporate them within our wedding.
What were the highlight from the ceremony & reception?
“Everything from the start of the day until the end, went as smoothly as it could have gone. I suppose if I had to pick one part that really stood out, it would have to be John’s toast to the crowd. The ceremony was also just as perfect. It was short, sweet, and straight to the point. We had our favorite people standing beside us and we got to marry each other – What more could we ask for?”
“Oh, I should probably mention something about tossing lavender at our departure at the end of the night – for the blogs name sake.”
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
“We are holding off until John graduates from the McCombs School of Business next May to go on a trip of a lifetime!”
