French Garden Party Wedding in Denver

Denver, CO

Romantic Vintage

L&L Remarks

The bride in today’s post went through what I think every couple goes through when they first get engaged: receiving too much unsolicited advice about what they should do on their wedding day. People-pleasing can be exhausting and can take the joy and fun out of being a bride.  Today’s bride got through it (as most will) and created the magical day that she wanted.  Captured by Urban Safari Photography, Ltd. this French garden party wedding is one that cannot be missed – especially because it has a hanging bed!

Wedding Story

“Planning a wedding is not like planning an event, dinner or cocktail party for the simple fact that you have to take into consideration ‘other people’s dreams’ for this day.

“First, you have your own mother, and I am lucky because I get along with my mother, who comes from a very proper English family that will have certain expectations.

“Then there is the unknown, the mother in-law. Again, I feel very lucky that my mother in-law seems to have no expectations and just would like to be apart of the process. Of course, you should include the opinions of your groom-to-be, but this is just to be considerate (let’s be honest).

“After going to many weddings in Mexico and everyone telling me that I should make our wedding into a destination wedding-slash-my vacation, Brian and I vowed to never do that. We knew that a nice local wedding was the way to go.”

“My mother suggested the Denver Country Club and the choice was that simple. I love the flowers at the DCC and have always loved the way a tented outside wedding looks. I played off of the theme of a French garden wedding.

“I used peach color linens that complemented the flowers but did not overshadow the gorgeous floral spreads from the Perfect Petal. Then, we added assortments of turquoise glass bottles with other little vases to evoke the ‘French garden’ look with a simple assortment of flowers along with larger vases of flowers to also give each table a different look.”

Bridal Q & A

What made you choose your dress?

“The back of it and how simple and elegant it was!”

Unique details in your wedding

“I love the flowers we had!  Everything just felt like home, and the dome chairs and bed swing prevented it from feeling like any wedding banquet hall.”

What was on your menu?

“Colorado lamb and halibut! We had pies for dessert that had our initials baked on them.”

“When I was looking for the white dining chairs, I met this fabulous woman who has a warehouse of furniture that you can rent for events (Eclectic Hive). She had these amazing dome chairs and a bed swing that I loved! It looked like the bed was magically hanging from the tent ceiling, but in reality, the base of the bed reflected the grass below with paneled mirrors.  I really wanted a place for our guests to sit and chat once dinner was over, if they did not feel like dancing, so we added the floating bed and the dome chairs. I placed the dome chairs and bed swing at the end of the tent close to the coffee table which was the perfect location for those who wanted to step away from the dance floor, but it also added to the garden party feel that I was going for all along.”

What song was for the first dance?

‘Sunday Kind of Love’ by Etta James and Macklemore’s ‘Can’t Hold Us.’

Where did you get the idea to have the break dancers and the choreographed dance with your wedding party?

“I had a young professional’s non-profit event party and that is how I found out about Streetside Dance – I was totally amazed at how good there are. Brian is really into hip-hop so I figured that it would be a perfect fit. Plus, I really wanted something to draw the focus from me.”
