Wedding Story
Photographer Comments: “Kelsey and Josh’s wedding was held at the Pavilion on Crystal Lake in picturesque Middletown, CT. Surrounded by fall color, this November wedding felt like quintessential New England!
“These two met while they were both working as camp counselors and clearly share a love of the outdoors. When they saw the woodsy wedding ceremony location at the Pavilion on Crystal Lake, they were smitten.
“Even with the crisp fall weather, Kelsey said having their ceremony under a canopy of pine trees was totally worth it. :)
“These two had their first look in a forest of swirling yellow leaves above the Pavilion. One of my favorite photos from their first look was actually of the bridesmaids and family watching Kelsey and Josh with tears in their eyes!
“We love everything about the outdoor ceremony spot at this venue. From the rustic gazebo to the lakeside view, guests are always oohing and ahhing at the scenery when they arrive! Kelsey and Josh ended the ceremony with a kiss, and were surrounded by swirling flower petals that guests tossed! The joy on Kelsey and Josh’s faces as they exit the ceremony is one of my favorite documentary photos of the day!
“After the ceremony, guests were invited into the pavilion for dinner and dancing. This rustic reception space was filled with warm and cozy twinkle lights everywhere! It’s So Ranunculus always does incredible work, but we loved all of their rustic designs for the flower centerpieces! Huge thanks to Allie with the Pavilion on Crystal Lake who helped coordinate the day!”
Bridal Q & A
From the Bride:
Josh and I met when we were both working as camp counselors at a summer camp in my hometown. He was working with two special needs kids who were assigned to my age group. We first bonded over the fact that we both majored in math in college. He was working as an aide for special needs kids in a high school while I was just starting my junior year of college. He drove an hour and a half each way every weekend to come visit me. My senior year of college Josh moved to Boston to get his Masters in teaching math through BU. After I graduated from PC and he graduated from BU, we bought a condo together and started our teaching careers. Two years later he proposed on July 11, 2016, on the beach in Marco Island, FL. I have been going to Marco Island a few times a year since I was born so it holds a very special place in my heart…now more than ever! It was early in the day and during summer, so almost no one was on the beach. The two of us had just set our stuff up for the day when he got down on one knee :)
We decided to get married at the Pavilion because we fell in love with the lights inside and the intimate feeling of the reception area. I love the woods and the possibility of having the ceremony outside in those gorgeous woods was too good to pass up! In the end, we had it narrowed down to two venues and a large part of why we picked the Pavilion was because if the weather was bad, the ceremony would still be beautiful inside. It made me sad to think about the ceremony being inside at the other venue, so I knew I would be stressing about the weather like crazy leading up to the wedding. Also, everyone we spoke to was also so nice, helpful, and excited, I knew they were going to help make the process easy for us. Advice to future couples getting married in the fall… embrace the leaves and the cold and don’t get upset when your dress/veil has 100 leaves and twigs stuck in after 2 minutes! We were so so lucky with the weather that day and I am so happy we had our ceremony outside! It was chilly but worth it!
It is impossible to pick one favorite thing about that day. Everything was so perfect. One of the absolute highlights was the second to last song of the night….Can You Feel the Love Tonight. It was going to be our wedding song, but we decided to save it for the end. All of our guests made a huge circle around me and Josh and swayed while the two of us danced in the middle. During the chorus, everyone was signing at the top of their lungs. My mom has a dark video of it, and you can clearly hear the enthusiasm and the love. Halfway through the song, the DJ had everyone bring it in for a giant group hug with us at the center. It was such a happy moment and the love in the room was tangible. Josh says his favorite part was how happy everyone was all night! :)
