Wedding Story
Photographer’s Remarks:
“The temperature just started to drop to a warm and comfortable level. After a full July day of heat in the upper 90’s and humidity to rival Florida, the gentle summer breeze and low 70-degree weather was a welcome retreat.
It was a beautiful night. The starlight showed brightly as the silvery moon climbed over the tree line on the horizon. The sweet smell of summer blooms and the gentle song of summer wildlife was beginning to replace the music and laughter of Lindsy and Wes’ backyard wedding as we left for our car.
I remember thinking to myself, “This is a perfect summer night, it really doesn’t get much better than this.”
Covered head to toe in sweat, we carried our photography gear back to the car with a mixture of exhaustion and excitement that only comes to us after a photographing a wedding. Tired from a day’s job well done and the joy and playfulness of a bright new future. The future of Lindsy and Wes, a promise of dreams to come and love that has been realized.
“Did you have fun?” I asked Leidy, as we loaded our bags up in the car.
“Oh yeah, that was amazing,” she said, throwing herself in the front seat while pulling out the laptop to backup the pictures.
And she was right. The wedding truly was amazing. We had no idea that we would enjoy a backyard summer weddings as much as we enjoyed Lindsy and Wes’ wedding. The food, the music, the dancing, and there was even a drone to film it all.
With COVID front and center stage in our lives right now, couples all over the world are shifting their wedding plans. Some are moving their weddings to next year in hopes that it will look different than this year. And then there are couples like Lindsy and Wes who aren’t going to allow anything, not even pandemics, to come between them and their wedding day.”
We can only hope that all the backyard weddings we photograph this COVID season are as enjoyable as this one. It really was a perfect summer night.
Bridal Q & A
How did you two meet?
Wes and I met about 6 years ago in Fort Myers, FL, through mutual friends. At the time I was living in Fort Myers with my sister, and Wes was here on the east coast of Florida. I was dating someone else at the time, so a romance didn’t blossom right away, but we saw each other at get-togethers and in passing several times over the next couple of years. When my ex-boyfriend I broke up, as soon as Wes got the news, he asked our mutual friend for my number. It took a while for us to get serious, but we began talking almost right away, getting to know each other better, and then started dating. We’ve been together ever since.
How did he pop the question?
Wes popped the question at the top of Arch Rock on Mackinac Island. We were biking around the island when he suggested we go to the top of Arch Rock to see the view from the top. After taking photos and taking in the view, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!
What’s one thing you’re looking forward to in your life-after-marriage together?
Wes and I are really looking forward to purchasing our first house and creating a home together. We can’t wait to find the perfect place to make our own and start filling it with puppies and eventually babies!
What is your favorite memory together?
Our favorite memory, so far, can’t really be narrowed down to just one, but it’s the entirety of our European vacation this past summer in Budapest, Vienna, Prague, and Berlin. The places we’ve been, the things we’ve seen, the people we’ve met, and the food we’ve tried! We can’t wait to make many more memories in our travels together.
What’s one thing that drew you to your significant other?
I was instantly attracted to Wes because of his personality. He’s funny and a great storyteller, so he definitely knows how to command attention. Not to mention the unique color of his eyes that really draw you in, too.
Is there anything about you two we should know about?
Here’s a funny story. When I was newly single, Wes added me on social media, almost immediately, but didn’t initiate a conversation right away. I must have been telling my mom about this cute guy named Wes, or he may have popped up in her “People You May Know” after the two of us became “Friends”. I bring this up because my mom, who to this day (3 years later) has no idea how to use Facebook, Instagram or any other social media platform, mistakenly Friend Requested Wes on Facebook. He used this as an ice-breaker to start talking to me through social media. I didn’t believe him when he told me that she had sent him a request, because she calls me to ask how to do literally anything on Facebook. I ran into him later that night (this probably wasn’t a coincidence either) and he showed me my mom’s profile picture, sitting there in his Friend Requests and I couldn’t believe it! When I asked her about it later the next day, she had no memory of adding him and had no idea what I was talking about! Crazy right!? If she hadn’t of added him and given him an excuse to message me, who knows what would have happened between us if anything at all?!”
