Wedding Story
Photographer Comments: “Lisa and Tyson’s Stowe barn wedding was the culmination of a lot of planning, a bit of rain, and a back up plan that everyone was thankful for!
“These two had originally planned an outdoor ceremony along the river on the Stowe Quiet Path, but three days before the wedding, Mother Nature had other plans! Torrential rains caused flash flooding in Stowe, and the ceremony site was literally under water.
“The morning of the wedding, everything was moved to the Stowe Comfort Farm. Guests didn’t seem to mind the cozy (and dry!) space, and it was a great reminder that a wedding is about two people who are wildly in love saying “I do” in front of their closest friends and family.
“Lisa is the owner of DanceWorks in NYC and Boston, so it would be an understatement to say that she is wildly organized and clearly has a take-charge mentality! I’m sure these badass girl-boss traits helped Lisa entirely re-write the timeline of the wedding day, making things still feel as seamless as ever.
“Guests were happy to stay dry inside of the barn during the ceremony. Umbrellas went hand in hand with cocktails on the patio. The rain even took a short break and Lisa and Tyson were able to have their first dance outside!
“These two are clearly adventurous spirits, and seem to be able to take on the world together. After recently purchasing an old farm house along the Mountain Road in Stowe, they decided to completely revamp the inside. The results are breathtaking. They have named their project, ‘The Farm Home’, and you can follow their progress on Instagram. If you are in the Stowe area, you can also rent the Farm Home via AirBnb!”
From the bride & groom:
We met at Syracuse and we’re friends that stayed in touch here and there – we reconnected in Boston in 2014 and have been inseparable since. We got engaged soon after we moved to Stowe to remodel and renovate a farmhouse fixer upper right in Stowe Village. We were engaged along a waterfall along RT 100 on our way back from Tyson’s family’s barn in Stockbridge VT after a fun weekend with friends.
Advice to future couples planning an outdoor wedding?
Have a place to use for a PLAN B. Our entire wedding ceremony was different than how it went down – it was originally outside along a beautiful winding path along a riverbank and turned out that two days before we got a deluge of water and storms and rain the day of – trees came down along the path and riverbank was under water up to my hips. Also the water under our dinner tent was a swamp. If it weren’t for our reception site – the barn – a private residence in Stowe – we would have been in serious trouble.
Our favorite thing about the wedding day was our vows. They were handwritten, personal and heartfelt. We wrote our ceremony from start to finish together with some help from our good friend and officiant, Clai. Additionally – our band had everyone swinging each other around and clapping their hands all night long. That’s what a fiddle does!
