Daring ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Themed Wedding Shoot

San Diego, CA

Romantic Themed Whimsical

L&L Remarks

If this isn’t fairy-tale-Disney-esque wedding material, we don’t know what is!

The two models have great chemistry that draws you into their fantasy ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ world. In my humble opinion, all the vendors have done an absolutely superb job in terms of upping the styled wedding game. This is some next level styled shoot production.

We can’t wait to see what they come up with next week. Photographer Raelyn says her spidey photo senses are going off, so I can only guess what will appear before our very eyes. Enjoy! 🙂

Wedding Story

Raelyn, Tiffany, and Stacy (photographer, designer, planner):

“My team and I are big fans of all things Disney/fairytale AND all things wedding! We are a group of wedding vendors who love to create inspiration for off-beat, Disney-loving brides and grooms.

“When we first heard there would be another Pirates of the Caribbean movie coming out this year, we knew we HAD to create a wedding shoot inspired by all things Pirates. We all have been living and breathing everything pirate, and my Spotify playlist has been playing pirate music on loop for the last month or so.

“We held the wedding ceremony on the iconic island of Coronado beach, in Southern California. Craft Menagerie our custom crafter, created our gorgeous sail that was used for a non traditional ceremony arch. Baldwin Bridal and Events planned, designed and styled our stunning sweetheart table, cocktail bar, and reception decor to create a dark and edgy pirate ambiance.

“We have noticed with all of the millennial brides and grooms who grew up watching Disney fairytale wedding animations now seeing the live action remakes, we are seeing a new trend of off- beat brides and grooms who dream of creating their own fairytale romance in their weddings.”

Adriana (stationery and seating chart designer):

“I used moody and dark colors combined with jewels, wax seal and velvet make for the most beautiful invitations ever. The invitations I made incorporate a lot of bold and dark colors that work perfectly with a super chic and moody wedding in the fall. The design is very dramatic and the handwriting font compliments it very well. I thought this style was perfect for the Pirates of the Caribbean styled shoot as well.”

“The reception was taken place at The Tipsy Crow’s upstairs lounge in San Diego, California. Baldwin Bridal and Events selected this venue because it reminds her of Disney’s original dark inspired ‘bachelor’s pad’, Club 33. With red velvet curtains, black leather chairs, old fireplaces and many gold fixtures, it was the perfect blend of everything pirate and Disney.”

Desiree (hair and makeup artist)

“For makeup I wanted Kett Airbrush to give her that porcelain look that would last all day. I used soft plums to bring out her beautiful green eyes, and giver her a little pop of color that matched the mood of the wedding.

“For her hair I wanted it to be half up so we can see her beautiful face in all the wedding photographs. Full romantic curls, with some interest at the top which matched a Pirate feel, but still reflected a timeless look.

“We added a ring for some embellishment, as well as earrings in her hair. I like to use something that may have meaning to the bride, like a grandmother’s brooch or earrings that can be unique and sentimental. My favorite Hairspray is . It works for soft and strong hold in beachy conditions which helped make sure her hair stayed perfect all day!

“My advice to brides: Be your own bride! Now anything goes, whether you want a classic look or a themed styled wedding. Finding the best hair and makeup Artist to help create your perfect look that matches your dress, theme and venue is crucial to having your photos stand the test of time…often brides leave hair and makeup last on their list, but to have a flawless look that still looks like you, only enhanced is priceless!”

Deborah (clothing designer):

“It’s a special type of woman who wants to marry a pirate. The films “Pirates of the Caribbean” were our inspiration for the shoot, however it was important that our bride be modern and relatable.

“Our model Aly is the perfect drop dead gorgeous character for the bride. I’m an eco-conscious designer and work with a combination of vintage, organic, and sustainable materials. Her 2 piece gown is created from vintage lace and organic linen, with contrast burgundy and black ruffles at the hem of a bias skirt with a train.

“For the evening as the day gets chilly, she’s wearing a reincarnated cashmere shrug with ruffles at the bottom of the 3/4 sleeve. Shrugs are a perfect choice to keep the chill away but keep your arms free for all the hugs.

“For the jewelry I took the “more is more” point of view. The Victorian Bat created 2 custom necklaces with a pirate reference that we layered together. One is a velvet choker, one a longer necklace. The big chunky topaz and quartz rings worn by both bride and groom were designed and provided by Safia Day Jewelry. Opulent and pirate-like.

“For Cole’s wedding look, The Costume House in North Hollywood came to the rescue. Cole is wearing a vintage olive toned Georgian Coat from the 1700s. Together with the wool sash also from the Costume House mixed together with current era shirt and pant, the pirate reference is clear but creatively modern.”

Alicia (floral designer):

“When I found out that the theme of the wedding was Pirates of the Caribbean, I was so excited to design floral arrangements that were moody and out of the box. I chose deep purples and reds with dark greenery to compliment the dark and rich feel of the movie. Then, I arranged them in my signature wildflower style.”

Alexander (videographer):

“Video is so important to have for your wedding! Decades of Hollywood films, movie trailers, and music videos influenced us to produce a video that is engaging, storytelling, emotional, and memorable. We incorporated a number of touches from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, including dramatic camera movement, wide cinematic shots, following the action, and most importantly the chemistry between the characters (in this case our couple).

“We filmed this at Coronado Beach, in Coronado, CA and also at The Tipsy Crow in San Diego, CA. We definitely plan to see the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, Dead Men Tell No Tales.

“Every film we watch is a learning experience, and we cannot wait to see new cinematic camera angles, effective panning and movement, storytelling and pacing, and most importantly the best way to capture performances. All of this is incorporated into how we make our wedding films–Hollywood style that is fun, engaging, enjoyable, and memorable for a lifetime.

“The new Pirates film, while dark for a wedding, can definitely influence wedding trends in terms of color schemes, accessories, and decor.
