8 Ways Winter Brides Can Dress Stylishly Warm
Now that winter is just around the corner, brides will begin to think about purchasing some sort of fitting cover up in order to stay stylishly warm — even for an indoor wedding reception.
Most (if not all) brides spend countless hours looking through bridal magazines or Pinterest to find the dress. As a wedding blogger, I have seen many wonderful real weddings, and I can’t tell you how many times I have seen the dress tragically covered up with something looks completely out of place. Not to worry, there are ways to stay warm while maintaining the beauty of your wedding gown.
Material makes a big difference. You may think a lace shrug could go nicely with your wedding gown while you walk down the aisle, but the reality is lace will not keep you very warm if your reception venue has the slightest draft. You want to enjoy every minute of your big day, which doesn’t include shivering and wishing you had bought an appropriate cover up.
Look at a few favorites below and see if you think they work for winter wedding warmth!
1. Vintage Fur Stole/Coat

Nothing says upscale and polished like a vintage or faux fur stole. I absolutely love this look, especially for a reception at a posh venue downtown or period property. Depending on your gown color and taste, there are different tones like white, brown,or caramel, along with many different styles.

2. Denim Jacket
A jean jacket look is a little more casual, perfect for a fall barnyard wedding reception. For the fun-loving southern bride at heart a jean jacket will not look out of place. In fact, it is a great accessory to keep you warm while sitting next to a bonfire, roasting marshmallows with your new hubby.
3. Colored Cardigan
by Stories
For a more casual and laid-back bride, a cardigan is the perfect choice for those cooler fall afternoons. With the right cardigan, a backyard wedding reception can look stylish all while feeling comfortable. Look for more feminine tones when choosing your cardigan, or one that will compliment your wedding day color scheme.
I like the less is more approach to finding the perfect cardigan. The gorgeous bride below looks stunning on her wedding day, but a violet cardigan was not the right look. With side frills, a sash belt bow, and chunky necklace there is way too much going on. Less is certainly more in my opinion.
4. Knitted Bridal Shawl
by HitsKnits
A chill in the air requires a winter wedding accessory like the one below. Not only will it cover your shoulders (can get cold in a strapless gown), but it also keeps your hands free for champagne toasts, cake cutting, and smooching your new hubby.

5. Bolero
If Kate Middleton’s wedding reception look is more your style, then a soft bolero will complete your ensemble. It is a delicate piece that won’t detract from your wedding gown. Just make sure the color of your gown goes seamlessly with the knit fabric of the bolero.

6. Glamorous Bride
The look below just screams glamour. Not only does this take your gown up a notch it will keep you secretly toasty.

7. Winter Wonderland Bridal Cape
A cape with a hood reminds me of something from a fairy tale. In reality, it does seem an extremely appropriate accessory for any winter wedding in the snow — complete with fairy tale ending!

8. Fitted Bridal Jacket

A fitted bridal jacket is a fabulous accessory for getting from point A to point B on a dreary winter day. Even if you don’t wear it for very long, the jacket will make you look much more classic in all your photos rather than looking like a mad bride with her arms crossed trying to warm up.
Match whichever bolero, shrug, or cape you find with a color variant of your gown. You want to coordinate on all levels and wear something that won’t take away from your beautiful wedding gown. Feel comfortable, warm, and stunningly beautiful this winter!
