This one comes with everything they’ll need to care for their baby: a microfiber wash mitt, a short handle brush to get in those nooks and crannies, microfiber towels for spotless drying, a foam gun, snow soap foam, specialty glass cleaner, wheel gel, and tons more product for pro cleaning at home.

Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance.

3. Portable Car Vacuum

by ThisWorx

Portable Car Vacuum Cleaner: High Power Corded Handheld Vacuum w/ 16 foot cable - 12V - Best Car & Auto Accessories Kit for Detailing and Cleaning Car Interior

There’s nothing better than getting into a spotlessly detailed car, and no pro car wash/detail kit is complete without a great vacuum. After all, keeping the inside pristine is just as important as the outside, amirite?

We chose this one because it’s perfect for keeping in the trunk when unexpected messes arise or in the garage between trips. Just plug it into the car’s 12V power port, and they’ll be ready to get cleaning.

Its great suction power works for both wet and dry messes. It also comes with 3 nozzles to grab the gunk from all of those little hard to reach places in the car. Finally, its HEPA filter helps keep allergies to a minimum, and it even comes with a spare.

4. Collapsible Portable Trunk and Backseat Organizer

by Trunk Crate Pro

Trunkcratepro Collapsible Portable Multi Compartments Trunk Organizer, Red

This organizer gift idea has it all. Adjustable compartments and removable sub-dividers, an inside mesh compartment, even a section designed to hold bottles snug and upright (no more beer bottles rolling around in the trunk on the way to the campsite).

He can strap it into the car and use it exclusively as an emergency kit. Or grab it by the handles to transport things like tools, groceries, camping and sports gear, whatever he hauls around.

5. Tire Thermal Coffee Mug

by MISHOWNET

MISHOWNET Tyre Tire Coffee Tea Mug Stainless Steel Interior Durable Cup Personalized Attractive Mug Gift for Car Lover 320ml 11oz Black MCCM01B

For the mechanic in your life, or any car enthusiast! This thermos is so fun and will keep their hot beverages hot or cold beverages cold for up to 5 hours. It’s a unique gift that’s also practical.

He’ll get lots of compliments from the guys at work, and especially on Saturday mornings when he takes it to his local “cars and coffee” gathering. (If he doesn’t know what that is, clue him in now. Here you go.)

6. Personalized Garage Sign

Suppose your gear-head spends his weekends tinkering on his car or does mechanic work on the side for friends. In that case, a personalized sign is just what he needs to show everyone the car gift doctor is in!

Specify his/her name and year of establishment, then choose a size and color combo to personalize it and watch his automotive shrine shine. Those dudes from those Motor Trend TV shows got nothin’ on his garage.

7. “I’d Rather Be In The Garage” Socks

by Etsy: ByLoopyLoux

Garage Socks Mens

Does he have an office job? Would he rather spend his time under a car’s hood instead of at his desk? Give him these socks to wear to work. They’ll convey the subtle message stylishly.

8. Funny Car Lovers Mugs

by Etsy

Funny Car Lovers Mug

There are so many hilarious mugs for car lovers out there, it’s impossible to commit to just one, so we figured we’d show you the whole selection.

My personal fave is “I may look like I’m listening to you, but in my head, I’m thinking about cars.” Probably because it speaks to the truth of my marriage. It’s all good though, that vacant look on his face is a small price to pay for a free mechanic.

9. Dashcam

by Rove

R2-4K Dash Cam Built in WiFi GPS Car Dashboard Camera Recorder

Would your car lover protect his auto-baby with his life? If so, and especially if he owns a classic, do him a favor and get him a dashcam so he doesn’t have to stand guard.

It automatically records on loop and will capture video when it detects a bump or collision. It also features a motion detector, night vision capabilities, and a 150-degree wide-angle lens to minimize blind spots. Car anxiety: neutralized.

10. Creeper Seat

by Pro-Lift

Pro-Lift C-2036D Grey 36 Z-Creeper Seat

This thing is a life (and body) saver! It’s comfy, padded frame converts from a seat to a fully reclining creeper, and the swivel casters make it easy for him or her to maneuver around tricky areas.

People underestimate the amount of physical activity it takes to work on a car, seriously. If you’re torquing stubborn nuts under the hood, or loosening bolts and removing oil pans under the vehicle, it puts a lot of strain on the ol’ neck and back.

Give your favorite car lover this padded creeper seat, and you’ll hear way less swearing from the garage and complaining when they come back in the house. Trust us on this one.

11. Classic Cars Notebook

by Society6

Classic Cars Notebook

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: everyone needs a notebook. They come in useful as a planner, a place to jot down parts and/or service information. They’re also great for recording deep thoughts like whether a 1964 Camaro could beat a leopard in a street race.

This colorful notebook design features classic cars of all kinds and would make a great gift idea for the classic enthusiast.

12. “Just One More Car Part” T-Shirt

by oTZIshirts

"just one more car part" t-shirt

Yeah, yeah, we’ve all heard this one before. It’s all promises until he comes back from a car show towing the hollow chassis of something he’s “definitely going to finish” by the end of the year.

However, there is something endearing about the automotive hobbyist’s commitment and drive (ha! pun!). We think this is a great shirt for those with a soft spot for an orphaned car. It would be great to wear to a car show or the next cars n’ coffee he attends. (If you don’t know what that is, see number 5 on this list.) He’ll get lots of nods of understanding.

13. Hairsheep Leather Driving Gloves

by Dents

Dents Mens Fleming James Bond Spectre Driving Gloves - Black

These classically luxurious leather driving gloves will keep his hands warm AND he’ll look like a million bucks driving that convertible race car (or a Ferrari Portofino that everyone has in the garage, right?).

Made from hairsheep leather, these gloves are lightweight and feature an elasticated palm for comfortable grip and handling. Shall we say they… fit like a glove?

Besides, they’re the same gloves that Daniel Craig wore as James Bond in Spectra! How could he not love them?

14. Car and Driver Magazine Subscription

by No products found.

No products found.

Whether he’s looking for parts for a classic car, checking out accessories, or perusing the latest and greatest the market has to offer, a subscription to Car and Driver is a magnificent resource.

The folks at Car and Driver know their cars inside and out. They also conduct reviews and road tests, so when the time comes for a new four-wheeled companion to occupy the garage, he’ll get the skinny straight from industry pros.

Have You Hugged Your Car Lover Today?

It’s easy to see why many people from all walks of life are into motorsports, antique cars, and toolin’ around in the garage. After all, cars are such an integral part of life (here in the US in particular), and have such a fascinating history!

Not to mention, some cars are just undeniably gorgeous, no matter what you’re into.

So hug your car guy (or gal) today, or at least give them a gift that speaks to their obsession for things that have four wheels and a motor. They’ll definitely appreciate it!

7 Resin Wedding Bands For The Non-Conformist

The popularity of resin wedding bands is rising for a myriad of reasons. The biggest draw probably being its capacity for personalization options that would be impossible with any other material.

For instance, some have the ashes of a loved one set in resin jewelry, including rings, so they can keep them close everywhere they go. Some have precious metals from other pieces of jewelry incorporated into the ring, and some rings even feature items like tiny flowers, plants, and other objects of personal significance.

If you’re looking for a wedding band that captures the imagination, a resin wedding ring is for you.

We found some fantastic resin wedding bands to illustrate how unique this space-aged material can be. Check out seven of our favorites, then stick around to have all your burning questions about resin rings answered!

Resin Wedding Bands FAQ

Because resin wedding bands are relatively new to the scene, you may have some questions. Here are the most common questions and answers folks have about resin wedding bands:

What are Resin Rings Made Of?

Resing rings are comprised of resin (a mix of synthetic or organic compounds) and a hardener. Mix these two parts together and you end up with a clear, super hard plastic substance known as epoxy resin, which is used to make resin rings.

How Do I Clean and Care For My Resin Wedding Band?

Cleaning: Clean your ring with a soft, damp cloth such as a chamois or microfiber cloth. You can also rinse it under running water with a minimal amount of dish soap. If your resin band is inlaid with silver or gold, a polishing pad or soft cloth will help remove any tarnishing.

Storage: Store your ring in a jewelry bag or box, preferably by itself, to keep it from bumping or rubbing up against anything that could potentially scratch it.

Are They Durable?

Yes and no. They don’t break easily, but there are a few things to avoid when wearing your resin band.

  1. Harsh Chemicals and Fragrances: Remove your resin ring when applying hand sanitizers when using cleaning supplies and acetone-based products like nail polish remover. Take off your ring when swimming, as chlorine can damage the ring.

Keep in mind, frequent exposure to cigarette smoke may yellow your ring as well.

Also, avoid things like hair products, lotions, perfumes, and colognes. Many of these not only contain chemicals that can damage your ring but coloring agents that can stain it.

2. Abrasive Objects: Since resin is soft, abrasive things like Brillo pads, sand, stones, or metal-bristled brushes can scratch your ring. A best practice would be to take off your ring while cleaning, gardening, or during activities that require manual labor.

3. Extreme Heat: High heat can damage your resin ring, so take it off when working in direct lighting or direct sunlight (UV rays can damage the resin too) for long periods of time.

Needless to say, you shouldn’t leave your ring sitting out in direct sunlight when you’re not wearing it, either.

Take care not to accidentally leave it in a pocket or somewhere else it could accidentally end up in the dryer, and don’t wear it in a jacuzzi.

How Long Do Resin Rings Last?

A quality epoxy resin ring will last as long as you take care of it. When shopping for an epoxy ring, make sure to verify the quality of epoxy they use to craft the ring to avoid yellowing after a couple of years.

Also, if you’re incorporating flowers or other vegetation into your ring, ask the maker if they have been sprayed with UV lacquer or other protective treatment to keep them from yellowing or wilting over time.

Do They Break If Dropped?

Not unless you drop them in a volcano or sulfuric acid.

Seriously, no, they don’t. They’re essentially thick, durable plastic, so they’ll take a fall gracefully.

Are They Waterproof?

Resin rings are technically waterproof, but to take good care of them, we recommend removing them when swimming or showering. However, getting caught in the rain or splashing in a fountain “Roman Holiday” style won’t ruin it. (Thank goodness!)

Is Resin Safe on Skin?

Yes, when it’s in its hardened state. Those who make resin jewelry wear protective gear, but once your resin wedding band is finished, it’s completely safe to wear all the time.

It’s Personal

Resin wedding bands (and resin jewelry in general) are often made for their beauty and personalization flexibility. We love how creative you can get when designing a resin wedding band, and there are lots of talented craftspeople out there who work with quality products to make you the perfect ring. Happy hunting!

The Complete Guide to Micro Weddings and How to Plan Yours

Small is beautiful. And when it comes to your big day, a micro wedding isn’t just a beautiful option, it’s a budget-flexible and intimate alternative to the traditional wedding. Plus, it’s more pandemic-friendly, which is why we saw a meteoric rise in the search term micro weddings during 2020.

Will that trend continue? So far it looks like in 2021 the trend will continue.

Not sure you love the sounds of anything micro when it comes to your wedding? Don’t be deterred by the term!

While a micro wedding is smaller in terms of guest size, that doesn’t mean the celebration has to be any less spectacular.

In fact, regardless of whether you have a small budget or a big one, a micro wedding gives you much more freedom when it comes to finding a venue, and plenty of opportunities to splurge on various elements of your wedding.

Look, a micro wedding isn’t for everyone, but it could be for YOU!  To help you determine if an intimate celebration is the way you want to go, we’ve laid out what’s involved in hosting a  micro wedding and put together a pros and cons list. If you decide you’re down for a micro wedding, you’ll want to stick around for our tips on planning each element of your magical celebration!

What is a Micro Wedding, Exactly?

A micro wedding is a unique celebration that combines the traditions of a full-blown wedding ceremony with a minimalist mentality. It’s intimate, beautiful, and often (but not always) budget-friendly.

Suppose you’re someone who likes to honor traditions but is more comfortable with a bare-bones celebration than all the pomp and circumstance. In that case, a micro wedding may just the right fit for you.

A micro wedding typically has about 10 to 15 guests. Its small nature allows for complete flexibility when it comes to wedding venues. You can host a backyard ceremony, a mountaintop wedding, or choose any other venue that celebrates your unique style.

white chairs and wooden arch wedding setup

The venue for a micro wedding may be unconventional compared to those typically used for a bigger wedding, but that does not make it any less magical. In fact, a small party means the world is your oyster when it comes to finding an enchanting venue if your heart so desires.

A micro wedding can be just exchanging vows, but it can also be a full-blown reception and party. Your wedding is your special day; the details are up to your imagination.

    Micro Wedding vs. Elopement

We know that, at some point in the wedding planning process, most couples joke about just eloping instead. We get it! A wedding can be stressful and expensive.

Instead of cutting out the whole celebration, a micro wedding is a perfect compromise.

Eloping is intimate, but it’s also private and often secretive. It’s usually the exchanging of vows with just one or two witnesses present. It’s often spontaneous and scaled back. It can happen at your local courthouse, the top of a volcano, or on a boat at sea.

A micro wedding, on the other hand, is a celebration with a smaller guest count. It is a planned small wedding event that combines some of the benefits of eloping with a joyful reception.

Both options can be budget-friendly and beautiful examples of celebrating love. It’s up to you whether you’d prefer some of the traditions of a full wedding or a spontaneous, scaled-down elopement package.

    Micro Wedding vs. Minimony

Micro weddings are also similar to minimonies. The main difference, though, is that a minimony is a mini ceremony, with the intention of a larger wedding celebration later. A micro wedding is a one-and-done event.

Minimonies became a go-to choice for countless couples during the COVID-19 outbreak. The global pandemic flipped wedding plans upside down. Minimonies allowed couples to still get married at their original, planned date while pushing back the larger bash for a safer time.

A minimony is a “commitment ceremony” with typically less than 30 guests. The follow-up to the minimony is the full ceremony and reception, with a larger number of friends and family.

How Much Does a Micro Wedding Cost?

Your micro wedding budget totally depends on you! For some couples, this is the chance to throw a stellar celebration on a tighter budget. The costs for a budget-friendly micro wedding tend to range from as low as $1,500 to $10,000. That’s significantly less than the traditional ceremony and reception, which is estimated to be more than $30,000 on average.

However, for some couples, a micro wedding is a chance to really maximize their dollars-per-guest rate. That means focusing and investing in the details of your wedding, and treating your guests like royalty.

    wedding cake with fresh flowers

Top-shelf alcohol, couture wedding apparel, and lavish floral arrangements are more possible to pull off with smaller wedding. A micro wedding allows for a luxurious experience for every wedding guest. At a large, traditional ceremony, you may have to skimp on certain elements, such as the food and drink, to stay on budget with your cost-per-guest rate.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, most couples who choose a micro wedding are still spending the same amount as a traditional ceremony. They’re using the excess budget on luxury items, like high-end meals and Instagrammable venues.

Should You Have a Micro Wedding?

Deciding to have an intimate micro wedding, minimony, elopement, or traditional ceremony is entirely up to you and your significant other.

Your budget, venue goals, guest list, and dream details all impact your signature wedding. Your imagination is the key to making decisions here. You can have the wedding of your dreams, it’s just up to you to envision each element of the day.

If you’re hoping for a more personal wedding experience that’s curated for you and your dearest friends and family, a micro wedding could be the way to go. We know, though, that any significant decision isn’t complete without a pros and cons list, so we’ve put one together to help you out:

    Pros of a Micro Wedding

    • Budget Flexibility – you can either maximize your cost-per-guest rate with lavish wedding details or steer toward an intimate, less-expensive celebration, while still treating your small party to an unforgettable day
    • Unconventional venue options – with a smaller crowd, the sky’s the limit on your venue possibilities. A destination wedding or courthouse ceremony are both in the cards, as is a castle wedding, cozy mountain chalet celebration, or a beach party
    • Intimacy –  a micro wedding allows for you to celebrate with your closest loved ones. It’s a romantic, tight-knit ceremony and celebration that will allow you to interact with everyone you’ve invited for more than the usual three to five minutes per person associated with larger weddings
    • Best of both worlds – A micro celebration blends the traditions of a full-sized wedding with several benefits of an elopement. Good food, music, and dancing are still crucial elements of a stellar micro wedding.
    • Creativity – with a smaller guest list and a wide-open sea of possibilities, you’re only limited by your imagination with these ceremonies.

    Cons of a Micro Wedding

    • Can be expensive – The details can get away from you and your budget if you opt for luxurious items.
    • Limited guests – Cutting down your guest list may bring some heartache. If you cannot fathom leaving out your cousins, best friends from school, or work husbands and wives from your big day, a micro wedding may not be possible.
    • Bucks tradition – Honestly, this could be a con or pro, depending on your view. A micro wedding is an unconventional choice. If you’re a traditional gal with dreams of a big wedding, this isn’t the celebration for you.

How to Plan Your Own Micro Wedding

So you’ve decided to have a micro wedding, but you aren’t sure where to even start planning the big event. Don’t sweat it! We are here to help. Keep reading for tips on how to plan pretty much every element of your upcoming nuptials and micro celebration.

    Budget

The first step to planning your micro wedding is to decide on a budget. It’s not the easiest or most exciting conversation, but it is one of the most critical wedding planning elements. Without a financial plan, you won’t have a framework for making decisions.

    Fortunately, micro weddings are budget-flexible!

This is your chance to decide as a couple whether you’d like to maximize the details and have a higher cost-per-guest rate at your wedding, or save some cash for your honeymoon and celebrate with a less-expensive backyard wedding party. You can set your micro wedding budget as low or as high as you’d like.

For more inspiration on planning a budget-friendly micro-wedding, check out our guide for throwing an exceptional backyard wedding on a budget.

    Guest List

The signature of a micro wedding is its small guest list. Most micro weddings have an average of 10 to 15 guests. (If you can’t narrow down your list of 100+ friends and family, now’s the time to switch gears and plan for a traditional celebration.)

Choosing the friends and family members you want to stand by your side on your special day is touching and necessary. Your loved ones will be happy to honor your love and celebrate your commitment.

One important note, though— don’t forget to send save-the-dates! This isn’t an elopement; a heads-up is still necessary for guests to be included. The save-the-date can be as simple as a phone call or bespoke, like a handwritten note.

    Wedding Venue

After setting the budget, your attention should turn to venues. Fortunately, with micro weddings, you can get creative with venue choices. Here are a few of our favourite venue ideas:

    • a favorite restaurant or bar (book a private dining area or rent out the space for a night).
    • a treasured museum or art gallery
    • a meaningful hiking spot or beach location
    • a cozy mountain chalet
    • a historic mansion or unique AirBnB property
    • a beloved (or brand new) travel destination
    • a farm, backyard, or rooftop overlooking the city
    backyward wedding lounge area

If you opt for a destination wedding, check up on any marriage laws in that country. Officials may require that couples bring specific documents, like birth certificates, to receive a marriage license.

We can’t wait to see your wedding photos from hot-air balloons, scuba-diving ceremonies, or sweet backyard celebrations.

    Attire

Your wedding day is your special moment as a couple, and we want you to look and feel fabulous. Your wedding attire, hair, and makeup should be as formal or laid-back as you’d like. Choose the wedding dress or suit of your dreams.

Ensure a dress expectation for your guests, too. If you’d like a black-tie dress code, make sure you’re clear about that in your save-the-dates. If it’s a comfortable beach wedding, flip flops and bare feet may be more your style.

Set your wedding around a theme, like these Star Wars fans, or choose a color palette that you love.

    bride and groom kissing

    Photography

Photography is always a great place to splurge when budgeting your wedding. These are photos you will look back on for a lifetime!

Consider investing in a professional photographer for your wedding day and engagement photoshoot. Their careful eye and attention to detail can make all the difference in your photos. If you have friends with a passion for photography, consider reaching out to them too. They may have ideas for beautiful shots you wouldn’t have thought of otherwise.

    Food, Beverage, and Desserts

The bread and butter (literally) of any wedding reception are the food and drinks. As a couple, you should get on the same page about food and beverage expectations. Will your ceremony be more of an open-bar type reception or a dry wedding? Are you planning a dessert-only event or several courses?

Food and drink are often the biggest per-guest spend, so a micro-wedding allows a lot more flexibility with your choices. Even if you’re on a tight budget, you’ll be able to serve up some incredible food and a champagne toast for 10 to 15 peeps.

    wedding food sliders and fries

Your wedding menu is an area for imagination; choose a beautiful wedding cake or opt for your favorite desserts instead. Create custom drinks or custom dishes for your guests.

If your reception is at a restaurant or bar, check to see if they have any specials, deals, or unique dishes for your wedding.

We do want to note, always double-check with your micro wedding venue on potential liquor or alcohol rules.

    Entertainment

Don’t forget about music and dancing! If you have space in your budget, consider hiring a DJ or book some live music for your party.

If you need to cut corners on costs, invest in a great speaker, and create your own reception playlist on an app like Spotify or Apple Music. Create the ambiance you want at your wedding celebration! If you love Beyonce, make sure there’s plenty of Beyonce in your playlist. Big Ed Sheeran fan? Throw his music on the list too.

Beyond having a stellar playlist, there are other opportunities for entertainment at your wedding. Games like Cornhole or Jenga are big hits at outdoor weddings, and perfect for a smaller crowd.

    Decor

In any wedding, the details are a place to shine. The decor and flower arrangements can totally change the atmosphere of a ceremony and make your moment all the more beautiful.

With a micro wedding, your natural surroundings can make a big splash. Choosing floral arrangements that are seasonal and match the environment can make for a less expensive and seamlessly designed wedding.

A benefit to micro weddings is your chance to give careful attention to any DIY projects. With fewer centerpieces and floral arrangements, you can spend more time or resources on each item.

Check out this beach wedding for some unique decor inspiration.

    fabric draped backyard beach wedding

    Officiant

No wedding is complete without an officiant. You can choose a religious officiant from a house of worship, a civil officiant (who typically charges around $200 to $300 for weddings), or a friend or family member to lead your ceremony (they will need to be certified as an officiant if you want the nuptials to be official).

    Miscellaneous/Extras

With a smaller guest list, it’s easier to get creative with wedding favors. Consider handwritten notes or personalized wedding favors for your guests.

You may also need to order rental items, like tables and chairs, or set up hotel reservations for your wedding party and guests. We recommend following wedding planning checklists to be sure you check off every item on your to-do list before your micro wedding.

    Micro Wedding Wrap Up

Micro weddings are smaller, easier to manage, and more intimate than traditional ceremonies. With a micro wedding, you have so many opportunities to be creative in your planning or scale things back to a budget-friendly ceremony.

Your micro wedding is your chance to create a very personal and intimate ceremony that reflects who you are as a couple. One of the biggest benefits of a micro wedding is that you’ll have much more time to spend with all of your guests on the big day. Treasure the experience, and best of luck with your planning!

13 Unique Art Deco Engagement Rings – Stunning One-of-a-Kind!

Art deco first found its roots in France during the 1920s. Influenced by the modern art movements of the time and inspired by Native American and Egyptian art, its distinct aesthetic has influenced everything from famous architecture to jewelry design.

Fortunately, art deco engagement rings remain as stylish today as they were a century ago! If you’re captivated by the glitz and glamour of exclusive Chicago speakeasies and opulent parties at the Gatsby mansion, stick around. We’ll show you some art deco engagement rings that’ll knock your garters off.

What Makes an Engagement Ring “Art Deco”?

There are a few discerning characteristics that make an engagement ring unmistakably art deco style:

Streamlined forms and geometric shapes – Clean lines are where it’s at, so you’ll often find emerald, shields, pear, and marquise-shaped cut gemstones accented by settings with smooth lines. Graceful circular shapes courtesy of cushion cuts and halo-style rings are popular.

Since the style is all about complementary yet contrasting forms, it’s common to see a round center cut stone featuring a halo set with small square or rectangular gemstones instead of circular ones.

Diamonds and platinum – The art deco period was about all that glitters, so it’s no surprise that diamonds and platinum were the pairing of choice when it came to selecting an engagement ring for your best girl back then.

Bold colors and contrasts – Diamonds and platinum don’t have to be monochromatic, though! Art deco engagement rings often feature splashes of gorgeous, contrasting colors courtesy of vibrant gemstones.

Know Your Gemstone C’s Before You Buy

Usually, when talking about how to choose a great gemstone, jewelers refer to “the four c’s”. That’s cut, clarity, color, and carat. When choosing a quality stone, however, carat doesn’t have a whole lot to do with it, actually. Here are a few things to consider about the most important c‘s:

    Cut

Different gemstones have their own inner glow and a great cut will accentuate and showcase that. Stones like sapphires and diamonds will feature cuts that show off how the light filters through it, while opaque stones like onyx and opal are usually cut to display the detail within the stone’s opacity.

    Clarity

A stone’s clarity is measured by how the natural light reflects through it, but not all clarity is judged equally. For instance, the best quality diamonds will have no inclusions, flaws or color when penetrated with light. However, the beauty of many gemstones is optimal when the natural light reveals internal inclusions like lines, spots, and other so-called “flaws”.

    Color

Perhaps the most critical factor when choosing gemstones like sapphires, emeralds, rubies, etc. is their color quality. Consider the gem’s hue (the pureness of the gem’s dominant color), its tone (its range from light to dark), and its saturation (the intensity or purity of the stone’s color) when shopping for gemstones.

Art Deco is Here to Stay

A lot has changed since the roaring 20s – after all, trends come and go. Thankfully, some go permanently and some get rebooted for another generation to call their own. And then there are the trends that appeal to us on such a base level that they’ll never go out of style. Art deco is among them.

We adore all things art deco, but perhaps the art deco engagement ring most of all. To us, it represents the spirit of the flapper: independent, fun, and thoroughly modern.

Sound like someone you know and love? Fantastic! Give her the ring, pop open some bubbly, and let’s raise a toast to your fun-loving free spirit!

    Bridal Shower Game Ideas

We’ve already written a cool article on shower party games. And why not, bridal shower games can be lots of fun when done right. Here are a few new game ideas for indoor fun:

    Toilet Paper Fashion Designer

Split up into teams of three or four (or more if you’ve got the people). Choose one member in each group to be the model, then everyone else on the team designs a toilet-paper gown! When everyone’s happy with their creation, the model gets to work the catwalk, and the bride judges her favorite dress.

For more hilarity, set a time limit on the dress designing stage, and see which team is best under the pressure of the clock!

    Mad Libs Vows

    by SayIDoPrintables

    wedding vow mad libs

We’ve all played Mad Libs (or so we assume!), so we know how goofy they can get. Well, these ones are to the tune of traditional wedding vows! One of the guests asks for suggestions to fill in the blank nouns, adjectives, and verbs on the vows, then the bride reads them out. Get ready for some tears of laughter!

Celebrity Wives – “Who Am I?”

Have the guests write the names of celebrity wives on a piece of paper or an index card, put them in a box, mix them up, and then have each guest draw a name. Each guest will tape her chosen card to her forehead. Everyone else has to give her clues to her identity until she guesses her celebrity.

    Bridal Shower Game Ideas

    Where Were We?

You may have to get a little help with this one from other friends and family for this game. Ask them to gather together a dozen or so pictures of the bride-and-groom to be in different locations together. Number the pictures, hang them up, and have the guests write down where they think each photo was taken. Whoever guesses the most wins. (Prizes optional, but appreciated!)

    What’s In Your Cell Phone

This game can get hilariously personal, but it’s well worth the potential embarrassment.

Create a list of things for the guests to find in their phones, like pictures with the bride-to-be, selfies, pics of shopping for the wedding, or whatever you think would be fun to find. Each guest will look through her phone for the things listed, and whoever has the most wins the game. And, again, prizes are always fun to give and to receive!

    Food Ideas

Lots of options here, but we went with a couple of country themes.

    Sweet Tea And Lemonade Punch

Lemonade, sweet tea flavored vodka, ice, and a lemon wedge. So. Good.

    Build Your Own Biscuit Bar

Arrange some biscuits, salty country ham, pimento cheese spread, and an assortment of jellies and jams, and let your guests load ‘em up with whatever they want! Oh, and don’t forget the butter and honey.

    Cheese Straws/Candied Bacon

Country charcuterie, y’all. You can add whatever you want to the nibbles table, of course. But come on. Candied bacon and cheese straws?? Yes, please. Deviled eggs are also an excellent addition to this spread.

    Crudites

Because vegetables, people. Unfortunately, women cannot live on candied bacon alone.

Fill a large bowl or bucket with ice water, throw some toy rings in it, then torture your guests in the funniest way ever! Each guest has to pull as many rings out of the ice water as possible within two minutes. With their feet only, of course

Pin The Moustache On The Groom

Put an enlarged picture of the groom on a wall that you won’t mind potential holes in, then blindfold your guests and give each of them a big ol’ mustache. Spin her around, and get out of the way! The one who gets the mustache closest to where it’s supposed to be wins.

    Find The Guest

Present each guest with a checklist of features. Little personal details of interest like “volunteers at an animal shelter” or “collects stamps in her spare time,” stuff like that. Each guest works the room to find the others with any of the listed characteristics. It’s a great way to get everyone to mingle and introduce them to each other!

Guide to Choosing a Sterling Silver Ring

    What’s Their Lifestyle Like?

The first thing to consider when shopping is practicality.

Does your recipient have an athletic lifestyle or a job that requires a lot of manual labor? Choose something that’ll be relatively snag-free and with a sturdy setting where the gemstone isn’t likely to come loose.

Are you giving a ring to someone with an exceptionally unique fashion sense? Or who prefers a masculine or feminine aesthetic? There are plenty of sterling silver gemstone rings to fit any personality. You’re guaranteed to find one they’ll love to show off every day.

The Issue With Sterling Silver Allergies

Not everyone has an issue with silver jewelry and most will never develop the rash, redness, or itching that comes with an allergic reaction. If your ring recipient does have those kinds of reactions, however, sterling silver doesn’t necessarily have to be a deal-breaker.

Some people think they have an allergy to sterling silver, but they actually have a nickel allergy.

Any jewelry that has been labeled “silver-plated” is made with a skinny layer of silver covering another base metal like nickel, tin, or brass. Not only does that diminish the quality of the ring, but the silver layer often wears away, exposing the base metals underneath to the skin.

“Silver-filled” rings are created similarly to silver-plated, the difference being the thickness of the silver layer on top. Silver-filled jewelry is of better quality because its bonded silver layer is thicker. However, it’s still no guarantee that the top layer will erode and expose the layers of base metals underneath.

Quality solid sterling silver jewelry should be labeled as such and made with 92.5% pure silver. The other 7.5% should be composed of copper to add to the rings’ durability and strength. You can recognize a ring’s quality by looking for the “.925” stamp.

Solid sterling silver pieces produced overseas may still use nickel rather than copper, as it’s less expensive to add, but pieces made in the US are almost always the silver/copper blend.

Bottom line: Look for the .925 stamp, make sure it’s labeled “solid sterling silver,” do a little research, and avoid imports.

Also, look for pieces labeled “hypoallergenic” or “nickel free.” Even though these labels don’t necessarily have to meet government standards or regulations, the extra layer of reassurance couldn’t hurt.

How to Pick a Quality Gemstone

Quality gemstones and diamonds are graded based on “the four C’s” guide, designated by the GIA, or Gemological Institue of America. (When grading diamonds, the absence of color is most important, while colored gemstones are graded based upon their color details.)

Color: The most critical factor when choosing a quality gemstone, color is measured by the gem’s hue, tone, and saturation.

Its hue indicates the pureness of the gem’s dominant color. The tone is measured by how light or dark the color is, and saturation is the stone’s color’s intensity or purity.

Cut: A well-cut gemstone should showcase the gem’s natural beauty while retaining as much of its weight as possible. Shaping the stone for optimal mounting is another critical factor in the quality of a stone’s cut.

For instance, a quality sapphire is usually cut with facets (much like a diamond) to show off its color, brilliance, and how the natural light filters through the stone.

Stones like opal or onyx are usually cut with a smooth surface to display their opacity. This showcases the gem’s depth and complexity of color.

Clarity: Again, unless the stone is opaque, its clarity is a factor of its beauty. Clarity is measured by how the light reflects through the stone.

Some gemstones’ optimal natural beauty is based in part on inclusions, those internal lines, spots, and other characteristics that refract the light within the stone, making it unique.

Carats: Most of us know that a gem’s weight is measured in carats, and the heavier the stone, the more carats. Perhaps a lesser-known method of measuring a colored gemstone is by its dimensions in millimeters.

A gemstone’s size and weight should be proportionate to the style of its setting for the best quality piece of jewelry.

Add Some Color to The Occasion

Sterling silver gemstone rings are such a classic combo. So classic in fact that the earliest silver and gemstone jewelry can be traced back twenty-five thousand years.

The Egyptians used them to contact their gods and goddesses. Jewelers in ancient China fashioned nephrite jade into beautiful pieces to adorn royalty. Ancient Indian traders exported diamonds, agate, carnelian, and jasper, and healers used gemstones to stimulate the chakras.

Greek and Roman history includes gemstones as amulets and smeared crushed hematite powder on soldiers for strength in battle.

We won’t even go into the history of gemstones in Europe, their uses during the Crusades, or what’s up now in the 21st century (we could write a novel on that fascinating subject).

For now, just know that giving someone special a sterling and silver gemstone ring is a  wonderful way to create your own colorful history.

Let me be upfront about this: it is super hard to narrow down a huge list into a tiny roundup post. Ultimately, there are many wonderful wedding blogs online that are well done. I think it would be impossible for any one person to stay on top of reading them all!

Some blogs will be style specific, others will be geographic specific, or in our case a bit more general with the content and topics that we produce for our audience. That being said, we chose our top blog contenders based on three main (highly subjective) criteria:

    • Does the blog consistently produce super useful content?
    • Are the wedding ideas one that you can really sink your teeth into?
    • Staying on trend with useful advive for weddings in 2022

As with most things in life where there is a vast choice available, I recommend browsing many wedding blog websites to try them on for size. Then, follow the bloggers that you connect with on a personal level. Maybe it is their tone of voice in how they write, or the fact that they create great video content.

Whatever the case, I think a good rule is to follow around 10 wedding blogs to help you in your wedding journey!

These are the real questions real people have about their real weddings. Invaluable information that will help you in every step of the planning process.

They supply vendor contacts for LGBT-friendly businesses, and we DARE you to read the Real Weddings page without crying tears of joy. Dare you.

    4. The Budget Savvy Bride

    budget savvy bride home page

Yes, yes, a thousand times, yes! Resources on throwing a wedding on a budget are priceless, even if your budget is pretty sizable. If that’s the case, congrats! If not, Budget Savvy Bride offers super practical advice on budgeting, saving moola, DIY, and more.

Our favorite part of the site is where they showcase real weddings on a budget, that is, weddings that were planned on budgets of $25,000 or less. Filter by your budget, color theme, what season you’re planning on marrying, and the state in which you’re getting married. It’s unbelievably useful.

    5. MunaLuchi Bride

    munaluchibridal.com home page

A specialized resource for brides of color, MunaLuchi provides fantastic resources and stunning photoshoots for everything- from engagement photo sessions to all things bridal fashion.

We love their section on where to find black-owned wedding vendors in your area and their shop page where you can pick up a print copy of their magazine. Oh, and you’ll get lost in their wedding inspiration section for hours. So. Much. Beautiful.

    6. Pretty Pear Bride

If your style leans toward the artistic or you’re planning a boho wedding, this blog will provide tons of ideas. Hey, you might just find your dream wedding inspiration on Wedding Sparrow, it’s just that gorgeous of a blog.

    8. Green Wedding Shoes

    Green Wedding Shoes home page

If you’ve had your finger on the pulse of trending wedding resources, you’ll no doubt have come across Green Wedding Shoes.

They offer such a massive array of content for your wedding planning, it’s dizzying! Travel, DIY, vendor guides, wellness, fashion, beauty, wedding photography – we could go on and on. The great thing about all that selection is it gives you valuable information on things you may not have thought to be prepared for.

For instance, most of us put a lot of focus on the big entrance down the aisle, right? What about making your big exit? What music will you play? Out with a bang or a quiet retreat? It’s definitely stuff to ponder.

    9. Ruffled

    Ruffledblog.com home page

Ruffled is a blog all about destination weddings, which is one of our favorite kinds of blogs to read because it’s always fun to dream! Every theme you can find, from whimsical to elopements are represented, and they provide plenty of inspiration if you’re preparing to host your own wedding.

As are the sections located on the website for wedding ideas and DIY wedding projects. The DIY projects aren’t limited to weddings either, there are plenty of DIY projects for extras like bridal showers. There’s even an article on creating DIY elements for a great New Year’s Eve party wedding!

    10. A Practical Wedding

    Apracticalwedding.com home page

The edgy and very, very practical content on this site won us over immediately. Their advice column is particularly helpful for soon-to-be-wed couples. Common issues such as etiquette for save-the-dates or how to politely request a ban on social media are represented, but some of the articles we found most valuable actually addressed things that are anything but common.

For example, how do you navigate dress shopping if you’ve chosen not to shave your body hair?

WTF right? Why should anyone care? Haven’t we gotten past this? Shouldn’t a bride be honored exactly as he or she is? Well, turns out lots of people care. Stories of dirty looks from store staff and the dress-selection entourage over a woman’s unshaven body are saddening.

We loved reading it because the article raised a lot of interesting points about things like the boundaries of “wedding dress shopping etiquette” and a bride’s right to do as she pleases when she pleases.

And to that, we say well done, A Practical Wedding. Well done.

    11. One Fab Day

    One Fab Day home page

Loving the Irish roots, One Fab Day features a super-comprehensive section devoted specifically to dresses, formal menswear, and accessories of all kinds. We could get lost in this wonderland of wedding makeup, hair, shoes, and even flower girl and page boy looks.

They highlight some beautiful real weddings and give some helpful planning ideas. We like the useful info on speeches, venues, music selection, and more.

    12. 100 Layer Cake

    100 layer cake home page

Though it’s a wedding-centric site, showcasing things like up and coming wedding trends and providing information on venues and vendors in your area, 100 Layer Cake also features a family blog with things like inspo for children’s birthday themes, baby showers, and maternity photos. After all, first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes baby in the baby carrier. (No one seems to use carriages anymore.)

    13. Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

    whimsical wonderland weddings home page

Whimsical weddings are among our faves, and we think Louise does an awesome job featuring the diverse themes that fall under the whimsical wedding umbrella. The site branches out to showcase some other styles and venues as well, but the articles spotlighting unconventional color themes, venue ideas, and whimsical details keep us browsing for hours.

    14. Bridal Guide

Bridal Guide is a completely comprehensive wellspring of content for all things wedding. They also offer plenty of really useful planning tips for literally everything matrimony-related. We like the bridal shows and special events resources, as well, where they provide information on where to find bridal expos, trunk shows, and sales on designer dresses in your neck of the woods.

Their section on bridal beauty contains a sub-section on healthcare tips, which we think is really helpful, too. So often, we forget to take care of ourselves during the hustle and bustle of planning a wedding. It’s nice to get the reminder!

    15. Style Me Pretty

    style me pretty home page

As the saying goes, last but not least is our perennial wedding blog favourite – StyleMePretty!

In addition to wedding planning and ideas, Style Me Pretty features an entire section on their site devoted to lifestyle blogs. Articles on interior design, beauty and fashion, entertaining, and more provide interesting content beyond wedding dresses and venues.

When planning your fantasy wedding, gorgeous inspiration photography, real wedding stories, and beneficial information is so much fun to peruse.

Try to make creating your personal wedding experience as stress-free as possible, and savor every moment. After all, you only get to do it once!
