Wedding Story
BEFORE THE WEDDING DAY
Bride’s Remarks: “It all started for David and I a little over five years ago when I had ran out of gas on the side of the road. It was two o’clock in the morning when a friend of mine called me back and told me he was going to send one of his friends to help me. I gave him directions and thirty minutes later, I met the man who was meant to be my forever. David pulled up behind me with a gas can in hand at my rescue — he was unquestionably my modern day knight in shining armor, and I was completely distracted by the butterflies in my stomach. Love at first site was real, and I was unquestionably in love with the stranger that stood before me.
ENGAGEMENT STORY
“During our first year together, David began working for a company that required him to travel back and forth a lot. It was hard having to say goodbye the first time I drove him to the airport because he would be gone for weeks at a time and I was a paranoid flyer and he would be flying frequently. As we were giving one another hugs, I asked him ‘If anything were to ever happen, would you have married me?’
“He understood that I needed assurance, so his answer was short, sweet and to the point: ‘If it did, I would.’ He said this for 4 years and 10 months, every time I dropped him off at the airport, without ever forgetting.
“On July 5th, we were once again headed to the airport and as I put the car in park, he gave me a hug all while reaching in the backseat of our car. When he released me, he looked at me and said to me ‘If it did, I would.. will you marry me?’
“The journey to get to that day had been beautiful in a way that made me understand what beautiful actually means. I know that if I don’t amount to anything else in life that at least I will be able to say I did this one thing right. That one thing was saying yes to my knight in shining armor.”
Describe Your Wedding Ceremony
“Our intimate ceremony was filled with 16 of our closest friends and family members, from Alaska, Scotland, Tennessee, Oregon and Washington. We wanted our wedding to be romantic, small and intimate. We were married on May 19th, 2015 at the beautiful Villa Del Balbianello on Lake Como. When we found on our wedding venue, we decided that it spoke for itself. We wanted it to be timeless and effortless so went with subtle neutral colors like grey, ivory and white to compliment the scenery. Our wedding budget for our big day was $30,000-$40,000.”
Wedding Song
“Can’t help falling in love by Elvis Presley. In addition to it being beautiful lyrically, it’s a song we both have playfully have sang to one another over the 6 year course of our relationship which made it the perfect choice for our wedding song.”
Groom’s Top 3 Best Moments
“My favorite moment was standing at the altar with my best man at my left, waiting for my bride to appear in one of the most beautiful places I’d ever stood, Villa Balbianello on Lake Como. Was I nervous? No, I definitely wasn’t nervous. In fact, I suddenly couldn’t understand why that seemed to be so common in weddings. Sometimes to the point where the groom keels over backward at the altar and passes out cold- What’s the deal with that?
“Soon after everyone was seated, the lone violinist changed his tune to our song. Guests turned around in their seats to watch as my bride entered the Loggia. My eyes were locked, unblinking as she slowly walked the aisle. There she was, my bride. Absolutely stunning. Breathtaking. Lake Como had faded to a mere hazy back drop behind her. That was my wife. My life partner. My person.
“And suddenly, I couldn’t feel my legs and I understood how keeling over was possible.”
Bride’s Top 3 Favorite Moments
“Vows: One of our favorite details was a private exchange of our personal vows, which we exchanged on the morning of our wedding. Instead of reading them that day, we decided to trust one another not to read them after we exchanged them. We are going to wait until we celebrate our 1 year anniversary to see if we lived up to the promises we made one another over the course of our first year together as husband and wife.
“A New Heirloom: I was gifted a pair of vintage earrings from almost husband, as my something blue for the wedding. He purchased them from a jeweler in the town of Bellagio on Lake Como. They were my first pair of earrings he’d ever given me and I plan to pass them down to our daughter/in law to wear on her wedding day.
“The Weather: Before we left the USA, we got a weather forecast for the week – scattered thunderstorms and a 90% chance of rain. To be well prepared, we sought out the most picturesque umbrellas a bride and groom could buy. On the day of the wedding it was sunny and only slightly cloudy, we all kept our fingers crossed. I stepped off the boat, walked down the aisle and stood across from my soon-to-be-husband under the Loggia at Balbianello. As soon as we began our vows it started sprinkling rain and moments after we kissed for the first time as husband and wife, it stopped raining! We couldn’t believe the impeccable timing. Just in time for us to walk down the aisle together and exit the Loggia to take photos on the grounds! During the last 5 minutes of our photography session it started sprinkling again and we got to put our umbrellas to good use. We got the best of both worlds and it was then that I realized, rain or shine, anything was manageable with my husband by my side.”
Honeymoon
“Our honey was spent exploring Italy and every city and town that we had ever dreampt of visiting! We spent a few weeks feeling like locals in Florence, Pisa, Rome, Naples, Capri, Venice and Cinque Terra. Monterosso was our favorite and final destination, we spent countless hours snorkeling and swimming with the fish just steps from our hotel. We left little pieces of ourselves here when we were making memories and we can’t wait to revisit and do it all over again.”
